Dan Matthews will be on Fox News Talk 1340 AM's News Maker Wednesday with Tim Bryant 9:15 am this morning

I will be on the radio this morning with Tim Bryant at Fox News Talk 1340 WGAU AM in Athens and available on the web at www.1340wgau.com for those of you outside the perimeter Loop 10 in Athens as their Cox radio reception signal is not super strong. I will be talking about the meeting of the Oconee County Democratic Committee meeting Thursday evening and local politics - maybe (?) some sports too.  Please listen or call in at 706-549-8255 or come to our meeting Thursday evening at the Oconee County Government Center's Room B102 (the USDA conference room) at 7:00 pm at 1291 Greensboro Highway (State Route 15) in southern Watkinsville proper. Happy 70th birthday Violet Dawe March 16th too - treasurer of our Committee forever and member of the North High Shoals city council.

Football coach Jeff Herron returns to Oconee to lead Prince Avenue Christian

The football power pendulum just swung more toward the north in Oconee County as Prince Avenue Christian School is expected to announce the hiring and homecoming return of local coaching legend Jeff Herron Wednesday morning, according to multiple reliable sources familiar with the process. Herron started coaching locally at Cedar Shoals and won the only state football title at Oconee County High School in an undefeated season in 1999. He has had three subsequent perfect seasons and built Camden County into a legitimate state title contender almost every season of the last 15 years, and won multiple state titles in the biggest high school division out of Region 1-AAAAA. He has two stints in Cobb County schools and is one of the few coaches I have ever encountered who is/was truly beloved at every school he worked at. He is a native of Virginia and went to college at Tennessee Tech and Emory and Henry. This should more than push Prince Avenue Christian Wolverines past the private sch...

Paul Broun is not a Bat man either

Bat death argument inaccurate

With Horton purge, Oconee coup d'etat complete

OOconee Board of Commissioners Chairman G. Melvin Davis must never have subscribed to the old political adage of "keep your friends close, and your enemies closer" since he has removed his opponent from the last election/primary in Chuck Horton from all the boards he could be serving on even as a citizen and not an elected official. In as small as a county as Oconee where political friend and foe can run into each other at the Publix, it is difficult to discern always who is on your side in any particular issue. But to hold grudges is not entirely too practical or pragmatic in such a one sided town, and might actually expedite the dominance of one side of ledger (you reading this Blake Giles?). Oconee County Observations blogger Lee Becker did his usual thorough job of reporting on the Horton erasure from the Hard Labor Creek panel, while noting that a citizen was certainly free to continue serving the county in any way, shape, or form, much like the entrenched citizenry ...
