Obamacare signups surge past 220K in Georgia

This despite an obstructionist insurance commissioner in Ralph Hudgins who really needs to retire as soon as possible. Perhaps we can send him a pink slip in November? Obamacare signups surge past 220K in Georgia

Yes, it is possible that Paul Broun will not make the run off, but only if you vote

David Perdue and Nathan Deal continue to lead in their GOP primaries in a voter survey released Thursday, and it shows that Karen Handel is gaining ground. Handel, Georgia’s former secretary of state, is now in third place in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate behind Perdue, a former CEO of Reebok and Dollar General, and Jack Kingston, a congressman from Savannah. Previous polls had placed Handel at 5 percent or so and back in fifth place. Poll shows Perdue, Deal still leading

Larkin lacks institutional knowledge

Herman Cain and Mike Huckabee are his political heroes,  and he passed on a lot of questions he did not have the background to answer in the debate. He needs to be more dynamic and substantive in his answers, even if he lacks knowledge.  John Daniell will be Re-election by a wide margin if this debate is any indication.

Atlanta to host jazz concert, party in cemetery

My grandmother Antoinette Johnson Matthews is buried there, too. Atlanta city officials say they'll celebrate the 40th anniversary of the city's Office of Cultural Affairs with a jazz concert and party in one of the city's most famous cemeteries. Director of the Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs Camille Russell says aside from honoring the department's 40th anniversary, the May 4 festival at Oakland Cemetery will also honor former Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson — who founded the Office of Cultural Affairs and the Atlanta Jazz Festival. Jackson is buried in Oakland Cemetery along with another former mayor, Ivan Allen Jr., "Gone With The Wind" author Margaret Mitchell and golfing great Bobby Jones. The event is also expected to feature a multimedia exhibition, which is being presented in partnership with the Atlanta University Center. Atlanta to host jazz concert, party in cemetery

Why did Gov. Deal’s campaign hijack this press conference?

Image
From: "Bryan Long, Better Georgia" Date:04/17/2014 11:57 AM (GMT-05:00) To: Dan Matthews Subject: Why did Gov. Deal's campaign hijack this press conference? Gov. Nathan Deal continues to hide behind his lawyers when it comes to any questions about his auto salvage business and the company -- his $20,000 per month tenant -- that owes the state $74 million in back taxes. In an event that is too strange for words, Gov. Deal sent his personal attorney and other campaign staffers to disrupt a press conference being held by one of two Republican primary challengers. Even WSB-TV's Justin Farmer and Lori Geary couldn't hide their amusement over the truly "bizarre" Republican press conference yesterday. The reason for the distraction is simple: Gov. Deal wants to talk about anything other than how his taxpayer-funded staff worked on a personal business deal that made the governor rich....

The Atlanta Braves will no longer allow some off-duty police officers to carry guns at Turner Field, which has prompted objections. Thousands using new Georgia online voter registration

State officials say thousands of voters have used Georgia's new Web-based programs to register ahead of the May 20 primary. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that more than 4,000 voters had used the new online and application-based voter registration programs as of early Wednesday morning to beat the April 21 registration deadline for the upcoming primary. Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp announced the launch of the Web-based systems in late March, saying the programs are expected to save local elections boards time and money.
