Athens Habitat Hosts A Survivors Build in Partnership with the Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support

 

Athens, GA—Athens Area Habitat for Humanity teams up with the Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support at Athens Regional Hospital to host a Survivors Build on May 22, 2008. Cancer survivors and cancer patients will work together with members of the community to inspire strength. Athens Area Habitat for Humanity, an independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, is an ecumenical, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the elimination of substandard housing in Clarke, Oconee, and Oglethorpe counties in the state of Georgia.

 

The Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support offers educational, emotional, and spiritual support to cancer patients and families in our community. The center serves as resources before, during, and after cancer treatment by providing support groups, individual and family counseling, educational seminars and a resource library. All services are offered at no charge to anyone in the community.

James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
