Philip Lee Williams is a fantastic local award-winning author and one with whom you should be well acquainted with if you are not. He will be at the next gathering of the Oconee County Democratic party book group at the new Five Points Deli location in the Epps Bridge Parkway area.

The book group sponsored by the Oconee County Democrats is especially
excited about this month's book and meeting! The author, award-winning
local writer Philip Lee Williams, will be joining us that evening!

If you don't know Williams or his work yet . . . well, inspired by his
writing, let me describe coming across his books as rather like finding
a well-honed arrowhead or delicate lily while out in the woods -- OUR
woods, right around here where we live!

The community-wide book group sponsored by the Oconee Democrats will
discuss local author Philip Lee Williams' lovely "Crossing Wildcat
Ridge: A Memoir of Nature and Healing" Thursday, May 15th at 6:15.




The author will be joining the group to discuss his book, which writer
James Kilgo described as "a hymn of celebration, an affirmation of the
blessings of family and home and the quiet wonders of the natural world
in our own backyards." The flora and fauna Williams describes so
skillfully are found along Wildcat Creek in Oconee County.

Williams is a distinguished novelist, essayist, poet, award-winning
documentary film producer and writer, and composer. Several of his
works have been optioned by Hollywood producers. His first novel, The
Heart of a Distant Forest, won the Townsend Prize for Fiction. In 1991,
he was named Georgia Author of the Year for Fiction.

The book group and discussion are open to people from Oconee and other
counties. The group meets the Third Thursday of every month at Five
Points Deli on Epps Bridge Parkway. Come early to order dinner or
coffee and chat a while.

THis has next to nothing to do with Oconee County with the possible exception of the location of his former office, but a former colleague of mine on the radio got popped today for four counts. James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

The booking photo is not to be placed on any web page that charges a fee for booking photo removal. Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
