Thought provoking article about voter supression with UGA study cited and massive Oconee political ramblings that have nothing about the story

Voter suppression is a very hot button topic around Georgia, what with the poll tax, the county system, and various other nefarious schemes cooked up over the years and here. So this study and article should be of some interest to those who wish to Get Out the Vote and register more people. I wish we had voter registration tables at Gainesville State College campus in Oconee, the Oconee County Courthouse and every soccer, baseball and softball game (not to mention auto shows).

Good to see Tommy Malcom out campaigning this weekend. When will Blake Aued of the Athens Banner-Herald cut Malcom a little bit of slack and at least include him in the conversation about State Senate District 46 seat held by Athens attorney Bill Cowsert? There have been a couple of articles and a few blog posts that sometimes do not even mention Malcom as a candidate against Cowsert, suddenly the darling of the state GOP party. I saw a lot of Malcom signs out Good Hope way in Walton County.

What is Mike Maxey thinking when he runs against Chuck Horton at the last second for the Oconee County Board of Commissioners? The politicization of the Oconee County Veterans Memorial is now further completed with the "free paving and grading" completed by a candidate for the Board of Commissioners in Maxey. I do not know Mr. Maxey but this has sleazy Republican political ploy written all over it in a place already tarnished that should be sacred and totally above board after the Jim Ivey incident of mismanagement, embezzlement and public relations disaster. Can this park have any more incidents or shenanigans? I am sure there will be many more buffoonish episodes there before we see an actual public swimming pool there probably about 2025 or thereafter.

By the way, I nominated the name Veterans Park for that poorly worded place with a second from Al Cuming by when the Oconee County Historic Sites and Tourism Committee was connection to the Recreation Commmittee, but once again our leadership, in that case led by last second Board of Education candidate Kim Argo, decided not to act on our motion several years back. I would suggest supporting Ashley Hood in that race.

Anyone I have ever met has nothing good things to say about former UGA police chief and school board member Chuck Horton. I have had my fair share of heated disagreements with him over the years, but we have always respected each other's opinions whether we agree or not. Horton and Hood are straight shooters, no BS kind of person, and sometimes that is all we can ask of our political leaders.
