This initiative has been a long-time coming and we are already seeing the impact on the neighboring community. The siding is going up on both houses this week and it won't be long before we are able to hand over the keys to Katrina Smith and Tina Steele.  We have accomplished so much in only 3 months and we couldn't have done it without our dedicated volunteers and sponsors. Thank you for your commitment to make a change in our community and a difference in the lives of...

Macon-Bibb merger meeting gets heated - State Legislature - Macon.com

I cannot fathom this merger happening anytime soon. The largely African American folks who run the city of Macon do not want to so easily surrender access and achievements gained over several generations of hard-fought acceptance into the figurative mainstream of Georgia politics. It seems the white G.O.P. members in the suburbs around Macon want to get this done much like the Athens Republicans started and worked hard to get nonpartisan elections in the largely Democratic Clarke County. We need a host in Watkinsville

From: "Lenore Palladino, MoveOn.org Political Action" < moveon-help@list.moveon.org > Date: April 10, 2011 2:37:42 PM EDT To: "Dan Matthews" < danjmatt@bellsouth.net > Subject: We need a host in Watkinsville Most Americans pay our taxes—but billion-dollar corporations are paying little or nothing. It's disgraceful.   Can you host a   "Tax Day: Make Them Pay" event on April 18 in Watkinsville to call out these corporate deadbeats?   Yes, I can host! Dear MoveOn member, Nobody knows the details of Friday night's budget agreement to keep the government from shutting down. But here's one thing we can be pretty sure of:   the pain will fall mainly on poor and middle-class Americans , while billions in tax breaks, loopholes, and handouts for corporations will remain untouched.  Those same billions could keep food in the mouths of hungry women and children, fund critical medical research, and do the actual work of reducing ou...
