Ashley Hood sends her kids to public schools in Oconee County
It is no secret that I am a staunch supporter of Ashley Hood and her candidacy for the Post 3 seat of the Oconee County Board of Education. I first met her writing for the Athens Banner-Herald's Oconee Living section some years ago and asked her the questions about what she loved about Oconee County. I met her again when she was pregnant and taking on subdivisions and the Board of Commissioners. I handed her my card and told her if she ever ran for office that I would support her. Few people have made as favorable and continued positive impression on me for their leadership skills and community consensus building ability as Ashley Hood. She has a firm grasp of what needs to be done to protect and serve our children, including four of her own in the Oconee County School system. In the crass and corrupt world of politics, it is refreshing to find someone with a fresh perspective and not beholden to special interests or the powers that be. Ashley Hood is that person we need for our children in Oconee County. It is a shame that she has become such a lightning rod for controversy, but I guess that can be best pointed out as a result of not being in a few select cliques, barbecues and good old boy gatherings of self-appointed status seekers in Oconee. Ashley Hood has my vote in the Oconee County Board of Education Post 3 in the Republican Primary, and I strongly urge you to take advantage of the early voting and do the same in both the Civic Center and the Courthouse starting next week.
Citizens Following is a message from Ashley Hood candidate for Post 3 Board of Education with information about a rumor that has been circulated about her family. Please pass along to others who may be influenced by this false rumor and give Mrs Hood the opportunity to correct it. Charles Baugh Hi, My name is Ashley Hood, and I am running for Oconee BOE, Post 3. I have been made aware of a false rumor that is circulating about my family. The rumor is that I home school my children. This could not be further from the truth. My oldest daughter, Madison, will be a 10th grader at North Oconee High School. My second daughter, McKinley, will be a 5th grader at Oconee Elementary and my third daughter, Maitland, will be a 3rd grader at Oconee Elementary. My two youngest children are too young to attend school but in the next several years will attend High Shoals Elementary. I have never home schooled my children and if I did, I would not attempt to withhold that information from the voters or deceive anyone. Please do me a few small favors. Pass this email along to all of your friends who live in Oconee County. I would like to stop the rumor. If you hear anyone who insists this is true, please clarify the truth. If anyone would like to discuss this with me further, call me at 706-310-1535 or 706-308-6386. Thanks so much for you help and I would appreciate your vote on July 15. Ashley Hood
Woven brightly,
Daniel J. Matthews, Jr.
