Oconee Road Czar part II

As long as I have the imperial power to do as please with the public transportation of this county, my next two targets would be the Oconee County campus of Gainesville State College and the Athens Academy access. The two parts of Bishop Farms Parkway shall be joined immediately, with proper work assuring the wetland control and possible bridge or other way to maintain the ecological integrity of the area. Secondary access to the 441 By-pass possibly involving the connected Bishop Farms Parkway or at least out of the parking lots. This would do wonders for Experiment Station and Government Station Roads after classes let out. Hagood Lane will be built out across to Summit Circle to supply the Congressman Paul Broun's backdoor to connect with Athens Academy so parents like me won't have to drive 70 on 441 to get to LaVista or Spartan Lane via Mason Mill or any other cut throughs. All neighboring subdivision shall be immediately available to have connectivity with the next

Two things: Books Galore IS still carrying the books for the book group the Oconee Democrats sponsor. Someone gave Cara some incorrect information. They have 3 paperback copies and 1 hardback copy of "The Devil We Know," the book about Iran we're reading this month (and discussing on the 30th at Five Points Deli on Epps at 6:15). The book is important -- and utterly sobering. Also, this Saturday's Stroll in Watkinsville (a series of walks sponsored by the Oconee Democrats) should be especially interesting: we'r

Many projects, recruitment ideas await Oconee County Democrats

The Oconee County Democratic Committee met and welcomed new member Herman Smith this wet evening at the Governmental Annex on Highway 15.  It was not as packed as our last meeting, but the talk of the turnout was lively and well informed through out the evening. The fact it was going on opposite of the Jeannette Rankin Dinner with Melissa Fay Greene was noticed as well. Republican Sheriff Scott Berry will be leading our "very popular" (according to vice Chair Ann Stoneburner) Saturday Stroll from the Courthouse to the Jail and perhaps the E-911 Center - rumor has it that Sheriff Berry will be toting folks down to the jail in the paddy wagon, and committee members were anxious to get help for stroll organizer Pat Priest Saturday morning. Stoneburner and her husband Dr. Robert Wyatt have been on every stroll but both have to be out of town this weekend. Any help anyone can present on the tour would be welcome. Having been on Berry's tour, I can highly recommend in a non

Panhandling bans hurt some fundraisers - USATODAY.com

Our humble suburban county has made the pages of USA TODAY trying to stamp out the scourge of people trying to ask for donations at intersections. I think it is perfectly fine to make sure the firefighters are indeed helping out the burn victims, or whatever, but an outright ban might be a tad bit overkill and somewhat reactionary. Chairman Davis gets quoted in one of those stories where the county is always going to be made to look buffoonish. Panhandling bans hurt some fundraisers - USATODAY.com Shared via AddThis

REG Aviation of Watkinsville flew Cox's flight to Stillwater, OK costing more than $6,000.00

The only thing that shocked me about this story is that Watkinsville is home to an airplane charter service, which is great for the local economy. I hope they have their business license. I might need to charter a flight sometime soon. Now if we can just get a runway in Oconee County. Given all the health and travel circumstances involved, nothing seemingly was done wrong, but it might be cheaper to lease an aircraft next time around. Sounds like we own an expensive craft and should be used as often as possible. I do not care if Jack Bauerle takes it hunting in Montana if he wants to. Give all the coaches access to to the airplane. There are always going to be extenuating traveling circumstances, and this was granddaddy of nightmares. For logistics geeks like me, this is a fascinating story, especially since I used to work with Damon Evans and Frank Crumley back in the day in the Athletic Association. Jeannette Rankin Auction items Dinner 2009

Jeannette Rankin is a true American hero with roots buried deep in Oconee County. There is the historic marker near her round house basically across the street from the Oconee County Middle School near Butler's Crossing. Her foundation started supporting non-traditional female students with a no-strings-attached scholarship. This is always such an amazing and powerful force for women and men. Please donate to the cause for an amazing local lady deserving our support. Below is her entry in Wikipedia as well as a plea to enter in their diamond bracelet raffle. Woven brightly, Daniel J. Oconee Democrats reading list: Community book for September
