Cocktail Moment: Improved Whiskey Cocktail

It may take a while wading through the cavalcade of moronic Republican congressman on the House Science and Technology committee, but she does finally make it to our own Paul Broun and the 4,000 (and many more yet to be officially tallied and counted in the other 18 counties in the 10th District) for Charles Darwin Cocktail Moment: Improved Whiskey Cocktail

Fear and Loathing in Oconee County

How wonderful that President Obama has won re-election! While you may feel sick and tired of politics this morning, you'd be surprised how interesting it is to read about the 1972 Democratic primaries, when a really diverse bunch of folks competed to run against Nixon. Do you know who won the Florida primary that year? George Wallace. Join us in reading about that contentious period, as we take up Hunter S. Thompson's "Fear and Loathing: On the Campaign Trail '72" for the Oconee Democrats' November book group discussion on the 28th, a Wednesday. Please note that we're changing our location to the new Tlaloc restaurant in the Bell's shopping center in Watkinsville. We start the discussion at 7 but arrive a little beforehand to order dinner and/or drinks. Newcomers are always welcomed! Join us to talk politics and history! Reflections of an Election

Congratulations to new city council member Connie "Clipboard" Massey, who may be the only person who has attended more Watkinsville city council meetings than me. She defeated my friend Nicole "Nickey" Turner Brooks, daughter of Peggy Holcomb and sister of  Sherry Seila-Turner by a 224 to 158 margin. This was Nickey's first attempt at running for office, but I hope it will not be her last. Being a single parent and running for office and holding a job at the same time is never easy, especially when you work overnight at the county jail. Congratulations to both candidates on a well run race, but quite frankly, I have no idea where either candidate stands on any substantive issue in Watkinsville or Oconee County. Nor do I know how new unopposed candidate Mike Huff is going to vote. I thank God for the level heads, hearts, and minds of Toby Smith and Brian Brodrick, both of whom have always done their absolute best for the City of Watkinsville, and have always an...
