I commend the Watkinsville First Christian Church for not waiting on the next heavy rain to find a solution to their flooding/run off woes: Their sign reads Caution: temporary dike due to Storm water run off and double or triple deep in sand bags to hopefully divert the next wet flow.

Calling all Watkinsville History Buffs...

October 3rd, 4th and 5th: we are hosting a living history event to commemorate the 149th anniversary of Stonemans Raid on Watkinsville. We are planning to recreate the event by bringing in re-enactors and transforming part of Watkinsville to 1864. The event will consist of a soldiers camp, cavalry demonstrations, a ladies tea, and a story teller with stories from the area, a broom maker, a photographer and many "famous people" that will entertain with their encounters before, during and after the war. We are coming to you for help because in order to make this a success we need lots of things. The largest need is money - in the way of supplies, gas cards, water, ice and prepared food for the re-enactors, hay, and grain for the horses, printing of banners and flyers, as well as volunteers. Please consider this as a way you and your business can give back to the community and step back in time for the weekend. Thank you in advance and if you have any questions, feel free

Oconee Enterprise provide

Here's a preview of my story: Vinnie Williams, celebrated writer and publisher of The Oconee Enterprise, observed her 93rd birthday Tuesday in the presence of loved ones. Many of them—if not all—have read their own names within the concise but clever anecdotes of her Main Street column, where she comes off as no less omniscient than an eye in the sky. Among the somebodies who indulged in Williams’ heavily and ornately frosted birthday cake—which, in good humor, reversed her age so to truly reflect her youthful heart—were District 119 Rep. Chuck Williams, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners Melvin Davis and Watkinsville Mayor Charles Ivie.

Gov. Deal's new $74 million tax problem

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note® II -------- Original message -------- From: "Bryan Long, Better Georgia" bryan@bettergeorgia.com Date: 07/15/2013 9:26 AM (GMT-05:00) To: danjmatt@bellsouth.net Subject: Gov. Deal's new $74 million tax problem Pay attention Georgia taxpayers. Gov. Deal has a new $74 million problem -- and this time you deserve a full explanation. On Sunday, the governor's hometown newspaper revealed a major concern with a personal business deal the governor tried to bury in the July 4 news cycle. Thanks to the Gainesville Times, we know today that the company that recently bought Gov. Deal's auto salvage business in Gainesville owes the state of Georgia $74 million in back taxes and penalties . In a nutshell: Nathan Deal had a political problem when he walked into the governor's office because of ballooning personal debt and lingering ethical concerns over his auto salvage business.

Happy 94th birthday to Oconee Enterprise publisher Miss Vinnie Williams

While I was raised never to ask a woman her age, there comes a point where longevity outweighs politeness and such is the case with Miss Vinnie Williams, longtime editor of the weekly Oconee Enterprise newspaper, legal organ of Oconee County. Congrats and remain healthy Miss Vinnie, we enjoy your columns, cards, and letters.
