Athens Sen. Cowsert to announce intent on congressional run

Athens Sen. Cowsert to announce intent on congressional run  which is fine because he is prevented by law from raising funds as long as the State Legislature is in session

Cowsert Congressional run put on hold until end of current legislative session

It may take only ten business days or just a little longer, but that is when you can expect State Senator Bill Cowsert to make his official announcement for his intention to run for the Republican nomination for the 10th District Congressional seat left vacant when Paul Broun decided to run for the US Senate seat held currently by Saxby Chambliss. Cowsert sounded like he was running this morning on Tim Bryant's NewsMaker Monday as well as in the announcement he sent to Blake Giles of the Oconee Enterprise this afternoon. The only other announced candidates are a couple of extremists in John Douglass of Social Circle and a Tea Party activist from the Augusta area named Brian Slowinski. Ever see a Georgia Senator hide behind office equipment?

This is no longer funny  - time to call your Senator and take names - Chip Rogers must be removed from his Georgia Public Broadcasting crony job. We cannot put up with Good Ol' Boy politics under the Gold Dome or anywhere else in Georgia any more. Sincerely,  Dan Matthews Date: Mon, 4 Feb 2013 08:10:24 -0600 From: bryan@bettergeorgia.com To Subject: Ever see a Georgia Senator hide behind office equipment? Better Georgia Hide & Seek The fallout from Chip Rogers' $150,000 per year, taxpayer-funded job keeps getting bigger. Last week, State Sen. Bill Heath grew tired of hearing from taxpayers asking for GPB to fire Chip Rogers so he sent a nasty email to thousands of Georgians. He told them they had been 'conned.' He was 'annoyed' by emails that, he said, were a 'waste of my time.' He lied about how Better Georgia uses and protects your valuable email address. He also called us ...

Dr. David Jarrett mounts late symbolic write-in campaign against Bill Cowsert in State Senate 46th District

Image
"Members of the Clarke County Democrats are supporting my write in campaign for the 46th State Senate district. Tell your friends to write me in as a protest against Republican misrule of the State," said Dr. David Jarrett on his Facebook page Sunday. He will be running against three term incumbent Republican Bill Cowsert. Whether this is strictly symbolic or will actually count for something depends on whether or not Dr. Jarrett registered his write-in candidacy with the Secretary of State's office by the deadline in June I believe.  A check of the Secretary of State's website Sunday indicated no opposition for Cowsert, so any votes for Jarrett will not be counted.  Jarrett subsequently indicated that he had not officially registered his write-in candidacy with any official election officers at either the state or local level by the deadline Dr. Jarrett is a practicing psychiatrist and addiction counselor in Athens-Clarke County.

Disappointingly small turnout for Monday candidates forum

Image
Maybe two dozen people came out to the Oconee County Library on Columbus Day night for a candidates forum featuring the people vying to represent Oconee County in public office November 4th. Sherry Jackson and Bill Cowsert took questions from the audience for the District 46 State Senate race while Rick Clark and Tom Breedlove took questions in the Board of Education race. Tom Leach took questions in the Board of Commissioners chair race without opposition of incumbent G. Melvin Davis.

Little bit about a lot of things

Oconee County primary election season is almost upon us, and lots of signs of the upcoming early voting are here. First a few warnings: AVOID WATKINSVILLE AT NIGHT: unless you like to wait on Main Street for 15 minutes for an escort car to lead you around the on-going paving. I would suggest using Experiment Station Road, Water Street, Barnett Shoals or Whitehall/Simonton Bridge or any number of cut-thru routes or alternative roads or get on a bike or walk. THUMBS UP to my young NAMELESS neighbor : although he was not responsible for the ongoing vandalism to the ridiculous amount of political yard signs in my scruffy yard, he took the initiative to correct the turning upside down of the signs and what not when I came home at an odd hour for lunch the other day and most of the neighborhood kids were sitting under a tree and I had to threaten calling the cops on them. BTW, homey, I am glad you can read, and I appreciate your comment, but there is such a thing as a fair use doctrine and t...

Interesting analysis of Malcolm-Cowsert contest

Oconee County may account for only 22% of the 46th state senate district , but I wager our turn out will be upwards toward 80% of those eligible to vote will pull the lever or insert the card. Remember the register to vote by Monday if you have not done so already.
