Vote early in Oconee County at 10 Court Street

Image
There were nearly 200 advance voters that came into the tiny Oconee County Board of Registration and Elections building immediately south of the Oconee County Courthouse in Watkinsville by 1:30 pm yesterday. I would well imagine that all of them were writing in "Charles Darwin" against Paul Broun for Congress like I did, but I would be wrong in that assumption. I would also like to think they were all voting for Barack Obama for President, but considering almost every one of my Morgan Manor Estates neighbors save the Gwinns, Knights and a few others have Willard "Mitt" Romney signs in their yards, I would think that would be a mistake as well. If you would like an "Obama Y'all" campaign sign for your yard, you have a very small window to which you can get one - and I would suggest you do so right now - at either 706-769-1131 or 706-372-1062 and we are asking a $5.00 donation per sign. The Athens-Clarke County Board of Elections will be open for early voting starting TODAY, July 9 - July 27, 8AM - 5PM, Monday through Friday. You will also have an opportunity to vote there on Saturday July 21 from 9AM - 4PM. For many voters in Athens Clarke County and the parts of surrounding counties that fall within State House District 117 there is no Democratic candidate running for this seat. If Democrats want a say in who will be the State House District 117 representative, you must ask for a Republican ballot . This Primary election is IT! There will be no other choice in the general election in November to vote for a Democrat because none is running. Before heading down to the Elections o...

New book for July discussion: Fahrenheit 451

From: Pat Priest < ppriest@charter.net > Date: July 6, 2012 12:53:15 PM EDT To: Oconee County Democrats < oconee@yahoogroups.com > Subject: [oconee] New book for July discussion: Fahrenheit 451 Reply-To: oconee@yahoogroups.com   Hello! I was chagrined this month to begin reading the book on tap for the Oconee Democrats' book group -- Geraldine Brooks' "Caleb's Crossing," a book *I* had selected -- only to find that it reads like a teen romance novel. We've decided to scrap the book and swap it out for another: the classic "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury. The book is short, and it should be easy to pick up a copy if you'd like to join us to talk about books (and book burning) and the great Ray Bradbury, too. The time and date are the same: July 25th at 7 PM at Piccolo's restaurant in the Bell's shopping center in Watkinsville. Come early to chat if you'd like! Thanks! Sorry...
