Local roads in the county are under the Road Department and the Board of Commissioners. State highways are under the control of the Georgia Department of Transportation. We suggest that your State Representatives Chuck Williams and Regina Quick would be good contacts for your questions and concerns regarding state highways. Your Sheriff's Office has no control over signage, traffic signals, speed bumps, speed limits. If we start telling the Road Department or GDOT how to handle the roads, they might start trying to telling us how to run the jail... Oconee County Georgia Sheriff's Office This is a low probability location for escape attempts. Suspect in custody. State Probation was bringing in a prisoner. He managed to escape from the car as it was pulling up to the jail. He ran across the street to Ameripride where OCSO, Watkinsville PD, and Probation personnel captured him. His name is Rasheed Freeman (19) of Athens.
