Water main break on Jeremy Drive

Friday evening after business hours is hardly ever the ideal time for a water main to burst, but that is what happened At 1110 Jeremy Drive in Morgan Manor Estates subdivision in Watkinsville.  Initially there was quite a deluge of water toward the sewer near Katie Lane, but the raging torrent soon subsided to a regular stream of eater on both sides of the street. The Oconee County Utility Department responded and was  digging some holes to try to stem the tide.

Oconee deputies seek FORMER KOHL'S EMPLOYEE man accused of raping co-worker

I would think a name of the person they are seeking would be germane to his apprehension, but as Investigator Nolley quite correctly pointed out to me just now on the phone, at this point it is indeed an accusation and the Sheriff's office has a pretty good idea of where he is. I certainly hope they catch the perp. Also, I must criticize the newspaper headline writer at the Banner-Herald because at the first glance at this story, it reads as if it is the alleged rapist is a co-worker of the Sheriff's Deputies and not some dude at Kohl's. I would strongly suggest changing the headline before it goes to print. I put the capital letters to show how poorly it is written as is below. For the record, I think our entire Sheriff's Office does an outstanding job in Oconee County, always answers all of my questions, and responds to the public quickly and without hassle. Squires withdraws from race for chair of Democratic Party of Georgia

Dear State Committee Member, It is with regret that I must exit the race for Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia. My husband, his nephew and I have been caring for my husband’s elderly sister who is suffering from Alzheimer’s. She recently took a turn for the worse and requires 24/7 care. The three of us decided that for as long as we are able we will provide that care for her ourselves. She devoted her youth to my husband and her son, and she’s deserves all the love and attention we can give now at the end of her life. I will be spending most of my time in Augusta and leave for my ‘first shift’ in the morning. I’m afraid I will have limited ability to speak to you and respond by email. As most of you who have dealt with such circumstances know there are lots of trips to doctors, lawyers, government agencies, banks, etc. ahead and the clock is ticking. Please pray for us. In the next few weeks I will reach out to RJ, Doug and Dubose and plan on endorsing on

This new microsite tells the story of the fight for voting rights, connecting the historic struggle to what's happening today. The timeline begins with the Civil War, Reconstruction, and the 15th amendment, then continues to women's suffrage, the civil rights movement all the way up to the Supreme Court's recent decision. While the Voting Rights Act was a major step forward in protecting and expanding access to the ballot, the Supreme Court's decision to rule parts of the law unconstitutional opened the door for Republican state legislatures to pass harmful obstructive legislation
