Nedra Johnson: Democrats rude at rally | Letters | OnlineAthens.com

The former Mayor and current City Council member of Bishop once again looked at the rally with Republican coated glasses, but Nedra ~ even though she has written letters critical of me when I used to cover her meetings in Bishop ~ is usually quite gracious and has given me vegetables out of her garden and use to invite me to the Town Suppers in Bishop. I do wish she had seen the rudeness displayed to me by somewhat trying to assault Barry Gordon Irwin. But of course that was on the other side of the small rally and well outside of her predetermined point of view. Health care reform demonstrations come off rather peaceably for the most part

An equal number, as best as any one could county, came out in support and in opposition to President Barack Obama's attempt at Health Care Reform today at Oconee Veterans Park. The crowd estimates were at 150 give or take a dozen, with lots of colorful signs on both sides. State Representative Bob Smith was the only elected official speaking I saw in attendance, and he was gracious in greeting me and my son following Lowell's soccer practice an hour earlier. Former Bogart city council member Woody Bruce did his best karaoke rendition of Lee Greenwood's hit "I'm Proud to be an American" and Bishop city council member Nedra Johnson was spotted in the audience. Many former military members dotted the audience, such as former UGA athletic department employee Tony Cushenberry who somehow came to the conclusion that our President in a Marxist, at least on his sign. Many speeches were delivered, most under four minutes, with raucous applause for those tailoring their...

Bishop dinner provides political forum for candidates

Former (and future?) Mayor Nedra Johnson did not invite me this year, but the twice a year Bishop town supper is always an interesting gathering of political candidates and townspeople in the sleepy little municipality. It was kind of interesting how she decided not to invite Board of Education candidates except Ashely Hood (who is a Bishop resident) and have Congressional candidates. A few years back I tried to get a few U.S. Senate and Georgia Governor candidates there, and she was having none of that. Current Mayor and former Athens-Clarke County Fire Marshall Johnny Pritchett is running for the Board of Commissioners and based merely on the fact that he has put sidewalks in the city to honor one time council member and recovering Athens-Clarke County police officer Courtney Gale is reason enough to support Pritchett in the upcoming GOP primary. I almost always support firemen such as Mike Link or John Walsh, Jr. on the Watkinsville City Council. Athens Banner-Herald reporter Adam...
