Image
Hello On September 24th the community book group sponsored by the Oconee Democrats will discuss "How Children Succeed: Grit, Curiosity, and the Hidden Power of Character" by Paul Tough. Kirkus Reviews said of the book in a starred review: "Well written and bursting with ideas, this will be essential reading for anyone who cares about childhood in America." A few copies of the book are available at a discount at Books Galore in Watkinsville. We meet the last Wednesday of every month upstairs at Chops and Hops in downtown Watkinsville, with the discussion beginning at 7 PM. Many of us get there around 6:30 to order dinner and talk about local and world events. Newcomers are always welcome! Join us on Wednesday, September 24th, for a lively discussion about helping kids succeed. Pat Priest Member, Oconee Democrats

Why to NOT VOTE FOR Rev. Jody Hice

JODY HICE ON ABORTION - “How many times have we denounced the murderous acts of people like Hitler? Most certainly, his Actions and similar ones by other political leaders should be vehemently condemned! Yet, we so easily overlook the genocide that has been committed within our own country. Our murderous dealings are much worse than Hitler’s six million Jews or Mussolini’s three hundred thousand .   The genocide in America is inexcusable! It is worse than genocide. We are guilty of eugenics!” JODY HICE ON WOMEN ENTERING POLITICS – Hice has been quoted as saying “I see nothing wrong with it as long as she is acting within the authority of her husband.” – WOW! It is inconceivable that in 2014 someone with these extreme beliefs could actually win a Republican primary for US Congress.   JODY HICE ENDORSES CRIMINAL PENALTIES FOR BEING GAY AND COMPARES GAY MARRIAGE TO INCEST, BESTIALITY, AND ADULTS HAVING SEX WITH CHILDREN: With no precedent whatsoever and with an attitude set on v

What's the Deal with Getting rich while Governor?

Better Georgia - Progressive News For three years, Nathan Deal did nothing to collect back taxes from a salvage company that owes Georgia $74 million in back taxes. That's because the company made Gov. Deal a multi-millionaire while in public office. In 2013, Gov. Deal sold his financially struggling junkyard to Copart for $3.2 million. He still collects $10,000 in rent every month from the state's largest tax debtor. When caught in this shady transaction last summer, Deal told WSB-TV that there was nothing he could do . It was out of his hands . In this morning's newspaper, that story has changed . Now that Deal's inaction has become a political liability, he finally says he wants a judge to resolve the tax matter.
