Deal refuses to support integrated prom in Wilcox County   Reply-To: "Bryan Long, Better Georgia" < bryan@bettergeorgia.com > It should be easy for Georgia's governor to stand behind students who are fighting to end an unacceptable tradition of "separate-but-equal" proms. We found out last night that it's not . Gov. Nathan Deal refused to support the students of Wilcox County who are breaking with tradition to host the school's first integrated prom. Speaking to Macon's largest news station, 13WMAZ, a spokesperson said   Gov. Deal won't take sides in the controversy . (Read the news story:   Gov. Deal Won't Comment on Wilcox Prom ) His reason?   Because Better Georgia suggested it . Instead of offering kind words ...

From: "Bryan Long, Better Georgia" < bryan@bettergeorgia.com > Date: April 10, 2013 4:23:05 PM EDT To: Subject: Challenge to GA elected officials: Support integrated prom in Wilcox County Reply-To: "Bryan Long, Better Georgia" < bryan@bettergeorgia.com > If you haven't already heard, Wilcox County high school students have said they  won't go another year with a segregated prom . It's 2013 and integration is   long overdue . Since they couldn't get the support of their high school or many of their parents, they're just going to do it themselves. The   AJC just reported   on Better Georgia's challenge to elected officials in Georgia to support Wilcox County's student-organized integrated prom. It's pretty simple:   love has no color . So while we're waiting to see which elected officials publicly or financially support this integrated prom, here are two things you can do to help...

3 garaged houses in Watkinsville vex City Council in zoning consideration Wednesday

Image
The city of Watkinsville is no longer a perfect one mile circle from the Courthouse. The giant five acre tracts are few and far between these days. Now it is about narrow lots, non-conforming driveways and garage doors, and building where they can or what they can. The city council did their level best to try to take everyone's concerns into account Wednesday evening at the Community Center during their regular April meeting. City Council memher Brian Brodrick was not in attendance at this month's meeting. New member Mike Huff (below) finally began to come out his shell a bit in describing one of the properties in question. Connie Massey did not say a thing that I remember.
