Dan Matthews will be on Fox News Talk 1340 AM's News Maker Wednesday with Tim Bryant 9:15 am this morning

I will be on the radio this morning with Tim Bryant at Fox News Talk 1340 WGAU AM in Athens and available on the web at www.1340wgau.com for those of you outside the perimeter Loop 10 in Athens as their Cox radio reception signal is not super strong. I will be talking about the meeting of the Oconee County Democratic Committee meeting Thursday evening and local politics - maybe (?) some sports too.  Please listen or call in at 706-549-8255 or come to our meeting Thursday evening at the Oconee County Government Center's Room B102 (the USDA conference room) at 7:00 pm at 1291 Greensboro Highway (State Route 15) in southern Watkinsville proper. Happy 70th birthday Violet Dawe March 16th too - treasurer of our Committee forever and member of the North High Shoals city council.

Blake Aued's final (?) pair of blogs drops bombs on Doug McKillip and Regina Quick race

This is one of Blake Aued's final few blogs for the Athens Banner-Herald and the last two should have the fall out the size of a thermo-nuclear blast. Or if you would rather, this one has a few repercussions that should make the conversation with Blake Aued Wednesday on NewsTalk 1340 WGAU. Congrats to Blake on the new gig at Flagpole. I don't think there will be any shortage of material to write about for the next few months anyhow.

Broun agrees to debates

Alan Alexander is on Tim Bryant's News Maker Tuesday show on 1340 WGAU

Mr. Alexander is an attorney from the Athens area well known to many folks. He is running against Chuck Williams for the 113th district in the special election for the State Legislature slot left open recently by Hank Huckaby's acceptance of the State Chancellor position with the Board of Regents. The radio show is on 9:06 am to 9:58 on AM 1340 WGAU on your dial or can be streamed live on the computer as well. Mr. Alexander did not make the final cut on the Oconee County Board of Education applicants for the Tom Breedlove resignation, and ran against Bob Argo for the Statehouse back in the day of 1981? The special come-one-come-all election in June 21, and the qualifying is next week.

Newest GOP gubernatorial candidate contributes $2 million to his own campaign

In my many stops in the last two decades as a newspaper reporter, there was none prettier than that of the county seat of Morgan County: Madison, Georgia. There is even a smaller neighboring postcard of a town called Rutledge which may be the best kept secret in terms of trying to find a place with an old fashion soda fountain pharmacy. The lovely private school Rutledge Academy is there and not a whole more. Rutledge makes Bostwick look big. One of the residents of this lovely village now wants to be the Republican nominee for Governor of Georgia. I can imagine that he will at the very least make the G.O.P. gubernatorial debates a bit more interesting to say the least.  I would also imagine he is not going to generate much traction outside of the Tea Party realm. So I guess we can expect lots of glowing columns from Rob Peecher in his father's local newspaper about this candidate? One of the more interesting wild cards in the Georgia Republican race for their nomination woul...

Sarah Bell announces another run for Chair of Board of Commissioners in 2012

Image
Former Oconee County G.O.P. chair Sarah Bell, who came 20 tantalizingly close to upsetting Chair G. Melvin Davis for the Oconee County Board of Commission chair seat in 2008, announced she is seeking the post in 2012 today on the Newsmaker Thursday program on NewsTalk 1340 WGAU AM local radio interview show hosted by Tim Bryant while discussing an animal shelter effort  ~ We Care Animal Haven group ~ 140 Rocky Drive in Athens. No word if current Chair Davis will seek a fourth term. She might be the first announced candidate, certainly in Oconee County, for the 2012 election cycle.

Dr. Russ Page on NewsMakers Thursday on NewsTalk 1340

Tim Bryant will be interviewing Dr. Russ Page on his NewsTalk 1340 WGAU AM Newsmaker Thurdsay show at around 9:30 am Thursday, February 19, 2009 to discuss TDRs and our program on Sunday. Please tune in if you can and call in any questions or save them for Sunday.

More review of the recent film about Oconee development

I wish I had seen the first screening of this film at the library a few weeks back, and I seem to recall from her interview on Tim Bryant's show that there is talk of another screening in Oconee County sometime in the near future. But I always wonder who is the uncredited writer of the press release in Wayne Ford's newspaper. Glad he could include this story.

NBAF communication thread shows debate over debate follow up questions

The following shows the email exchange between Tim Bryant of NewsTalk 1340 WGAU AM in Athens and the Kathy Prescott and Grady Thrasher of Athens FAQ (who are opposed to the NBAF coming to Athens. While opposed to NBAF in principal because of lack of infrastructure and roads specifically to the area at Milledge and Whitehall, I do not blame Bryant for not wanting to let the opponents of NBAF carry on with copious follow up questions. While the NBAF opponents may have completely legitimate arguments and relevant follow-up questions, they do themselves no favors by making enemies in the media. I doubt that Thrasher and Prescott will be back on Bryant's four day a week interview program anytime soon. The following is from their email release of the back and forth between Bryant, Prescott and Thrasher, along with some folks in North Carolina. Convoluted would be a polite assessment of this clusterf*ck. Dear All, Thanks to all of you that have signed the petition. And to all of you that ...
