Pat Priest ppriest@charter.net [oconee] oconee@yahoogroups.com Subject: [oconee] a novel about abolitionist John Brown Date: September 24, 2014 at 9:58:55 PM EDT To: Oconee Democrats oconee@yahoogroups.com Reply-To: oconee@yahoogroups.com Hello! "The Good Lord Bird" by James McBride is up next for the community book group sponsored by the Oconee Democrats. The Washington Post describes this novel about the abolitionist John Brown and a young slave as "deeply researched, richly imagined" and a "rambunctious comedy of errors." This   very   unusual book won the National Book Award for Fiction last year. A few copies are available at a discount at Books Galore in Watkinsville.   The group meets the last Wednesday of every month (October 29th) upstairs at Chops and Hops in downtown Watkinsville, with the discussion beginning at 7 PM. Newcomers are always welcome! Pat Priest Member, Oconee Democrats

JODY HICE WANTS TO TAKE AWAY OUR RIGHT TO ELECT OUR OWN U.S. SENATORS: “The Seventeenth Amendment should be repealed. As another attempt to curb state rights, the Seventeenth was ratified in 1913, allowing citizens to directly elect Senators rather than the initial constitutional plan, which called for Senators to be appointed by their various state legislatures.
