This street light was knocked over Saturday in Watkinsville This street lights looks as if it was saddened by the Georgia football loss to Missouri today. Down the street the banners were being taken down from the various ornamental street lights, presumably by someone from the Daughters of the American Revolution. I am all for historical recognition of various events and anniversaries celebrated by such displays, but wish they would extend down to Barnett Shoals where the ragged banners flap like they were on display at Fort McHenry.

The time has been changed to 4pm on the 19 th Peggy Subject: an interesting event   Just in case you haven't seen the news articles about this event, I thought you might like to hear about it.  On August 19 The Daughters of 1812 are planning to honor Richard Richardson, a local War of 1812 vet.  There will be a ceremony at the Watkinsville Cemetery at 4:00 followed by a reception at the Eagle Tavern. Mary Ruth Moore is a descendant of Richard Richardson.  She will be giving a presentation about him at the cemetery.  Peggy

A flagpole and marker dedication to all Oconee Confederate Soldiers will begin at 2:00 p. m. in the Watkinsville Cemetery . A memorial dedication for two civilians who died in a Union prison will begin at 3:15 p.m. in front of Eagle Tavern.  A reception for all to enjoy will be held after the second ceremony.
