Watkinsville City Council wants me to skydive for ESP, Inc.

Candidate John Larkin hands out his card The Watkinsville City Council gets approached for all kinds of contributions from their budget, including at the March meeting by my good friend Dr. Robert Wyatt of the Oconee County Library Board talking for Jackie Elsner (who was in the audience) of the libraries, who are seeking a solid $500.00 more than last year. The budget process begins soon, and Mayor Charles Ivie complimented Dr. Wyatt on his excellent timing. The unfunded mandated by the state of Georgia are part of the reason for the $25,000.00 shortfall on part of the libraries' budgets. The budget increase is all of 3.5% - or $14,500.00 to $15,000.00. Alvaro Villaveces points out where his septic tank will be to Brian Brodrick. Immediately next door to the Watkinsville Community Center (where the City Council meets) on VFW Drive in Watkinsville is the Extra Special People Incorporated, a group designed to help developmentally disabled children and on the same ...

Putting a rapist back on the streets

Subject: Putting a rapist back on the streets From: info@weareultraviolet.org To: d Date: Mon, 10 Mar 2014 15:10:23 +0000 --> A Georgia judge has put a rapist back on the streets because he felt the survivor "didn't act like a victim."  Will you demand the Georgia Judicial Qualifications commission remove this victim-blaming judge? Click here Dear Daniel, A Georgia judge just overturned a jury's rape conviction because he felt the survivor, who has Down Syndrome, "didn't act like a victim." 1 Yup, you read that right. A judge actually dismissed the jury's conviction of a man accused of repeatedly raping a woman with disabilities because he didn't like the way she "acted." It's hard enough finding the courage to report a rape and to go through police interrogations and the emotional difficulty of a trial. But now rape survivors have to fit a stereotype of a victim before they can get justice?!...

Three Oconee County High students charged with possessing diazepam at school

I do not think it serves anyone's interests to identify minors accused of committing crimes in school, unless it is something like a mass shooting. The fact that the Banner-Herald identified one and did not identify the others is reckless and ethically flawed. Three Oconee County High students charged with possessing diazepam at school
