So it seems the big questions now are why did it take Congressman Broun three days to condemn the question asked by the man, and who exactly is the man who asked the question to Congressman Broun as to "Who is going to shoot Obama?" Broun could settle the question by releasing the videotape of the event, but that would be so out of character for Dr. Broun. Broun condemns assassination query || OnlineAthens.com

More on the Broun Town Hall Presidential threat

Blake Aued of the Banner-Herald made a blog post out of Mark Farmer's comments on the Banner-Herald's story this morning about hearing the first questioner at the Paul Broun town hall ask about who is going to shoot President Obama? Mark Farmer is the witness who has decided to put himself out there for interviews and what not. Now who will be the person to name the man in the red shirt who drove 75 miles to Oglethorpe County last night? Should not take an enterprising Secret Service Agent very long to draw a circle around Lexington and begin to figure our who this is. Then again there is the video the Broun staff was taking. I will give Dr. Broun's staff props for stepping up to the plate on this one so quickly

Congressman Broun laughs at question asking "Who's gonna shoot Obama?" last night in Oglethorpe County

At the end of his speech last night at the Oglethorpe County Board of Commissioners office in Lexington, 10th district Congressman Dr. Paul Broun asked for questions from the audience, and a red shirted man who had reportedly driven 75 miles to come to meeting asked "Who's gonna shoot Obama?" The chair of the Science, Space and Technology Committee's subcommittee on investigation and oversight chuckled merrily in response along with a large section of the audience. Many people in the audience did not hear the question but did hear the laughter. Members of Congressman Broun's staff were seen videotaping the event. So far this has no tape or recording of the question has surfaced.

Know any good organizers?

Image
Friend -- This summer, Organizing for America will train a new team of summer organizers. The Summer Organizing Fellowship is a grassroots program that aims to put boots on the ground and help foster a new generation of leaders -- not just to help win elections, but to strengthen our democracy in communities across the country. We're reminded nearly every day of the power of organizing -- of people standing up and speaking out in their communities. And that kind of effective organizing doesn't happen in a vacuum. It takes commitment, time, and hard work to build a movement around a cause. That's exactly what our team of summer organizers will do. They will be trained in the basic principles that have always built and powered effective grassroots movements, and will be assigned to a specific community where they'll work to organize supporters street by street, neighborhood by neighborhood. They'll recruit volunteers, run events, knock on doors, and do what it

North Oconee High School Principal Barry Lollis resigns at BOE meeting tonight

There has been a lot of anger and acrimony at North Oconee High School this year, and it is not because the football team did not win the State Title. The Oconee Enterprise newspaper reported it quite poorly this evening, somehow equating the five deaths of fathers of students and a recent suicde as fueling the controversy. Guess what? Dads die every day. It does not make the heads of school turn in their resignations. However the death of a student certainly does not make one want to stick around. What does make administrators decide they no longer want to work at a school? The lack of cooperation and respect of the teachers and employees. The parents taking their kids out of the newest school in the county. The students not wanting to say hello to the Principal when they walk down the hallway. I have not been inside North Oconee during the school day to accurately gauge, yet alone trace the reasons for, the anger and hostility toward Mr. Lollis. I have heard from the parents and

What a sad week in Oconee County and surrounding areas

Oconee County is not known for much crime, so when two violent deaths from guns happen nearly the same time the same day in the same part of the county, it is a shock to all of us, whether in bucolic Oconee County, Georgia or the mountainous South Carolina counterpart or anywhere else. This is not going to be some attempt at eliminating or controlling your rights to bear arms. It is a call to arms to stop using weaponry in generals as a means to end arguments, solve problems, or make a statement. There is always help and hope despite the fight or flight risk of pulling a trigger or throwing a punch, you can find a better way.
