Fear and Loathing in Watkinsville

I shook hands with my opponent Mike Link last night shortly after we agreed to disagreed about alcohol's origins in Watkinsville. I loudly volunteered "1795" as when alcohol was first allowed in our lovely town, with the distilled spirits supposedly responsible for the moving of the land grant University of Georgia to move to Athens to avoid the supposedly evil Eagle Tavern.  Among my many jobs in Watkinsville was working in Eagle Tavern for Bonnie Murphy, and I basically kissed my freelance Athens Banner-Herald gig covering city council meetings goodbye after daring to cross swords with Anita Ford (then newly married to Wayne Ford) when she was running the place and did not want it to be open the day after Thanksgiving (which was Watkinsville's Bicentennial). Good effort

Thanks for your support.  The Watkinsville voters have evidently returned Mike Link to office. I appreciate your votes. I think the liquor referendum did not help me too much. I hope that my opponent will at least consider the merits of the future business applicants before voting against them on religious or moral believes for the good of Watkinsville.  It was a great race and I am glad I ran regardless of the outcome. 389-157 losing 1 of 2 precincts.

I am the first person in my family to graduate from college, and the HOPE Scholarship helped make it possible. When Gov. Deal dismantled HOPE after he became governor, Jason and I teamed up to write legislation to reverse his devastating cuts.  Now, Gov. Deal and his supporters are running ads saying Jason is planning to destroy HOPE. That is a blatant lie.  These ads are everywhere and Jason needs our help getting the facts to voters.  We filmed this short video laying out the facts so that you can share it with your friends and family.
