Job well done by all involved in the Board of Education and Board of Commissioners debate Monday and Wednesday at the Oconee County Library on Experiment Station Road in Watkinsville. Among those who turned out Wednesday night not participating in the event directly were Mayor Jim Luken of Watkinsville, Maridee Williams of Oconee Enterprise, Blake Giles of the Oconee Enterprise, Adam Thompson of the Athens Banner-Herald, North High Shoals City Council member Steve Holzman, Jerry Studdard, Dr. Lee Becker, Dr. Tony Glenn, emcee Charlie Baugh and plenty of other friends and familiar faces. Dr. Jackson the acting Superinterent was there as were numerous other Board of Education personnel as well. Straight shooter Mike Maxey was there as was Melvin Davis and Sarah Bell. Even though I hate the name of it, the new park smells like victory in the morning

I have only been in the horribly named Oconee County Complex once, and that was for the U-10 soccer tryouts in what was the first event held there. When the wind blows (which is pretty much all the time) just the right way, you get to smell the fertilizer or other poop permeating Dr. Mike Streetman's property across that ridiculously busy State Route 53. The facility has decent turf, good parking, some sparse shade and beyond that, come back to read here after a few Blazers soccer games. But here is a well-written story in today's Athens Banana-Harold about the increasing and outrageous costs of the new park

Does accused embezzler Jim Ivey deserve a change a venue?

I do not think he does deserve getting his embezzlement criminal action moved, but he may end up getting one because of his popular support, not acrimony. It will be interesting to see if they do end up wasting tax payer money on moving the trial . The Oconee Veterans monument folks have had a difficult time raising money because of the stench of cronyism and poisoned politics left behind by Ivey. I still think he ought to be sentenced to breaking the bedrock at the Oconee County Community Complex. I hope he gets what he deserves no matter where it is held. I know one thing for sure, I would be struck off the jury pool if selected quicker than anyone else.
