State Rep. Harry Geisinger, the state Capitol’s top horse-racing proponent, dies | Political Insider blog

Very sorry to hear of his death and I used to work in Roswell in the mid 1980s. Gone (with his passing) by in large is the old school BUSINESS Republican who understood that green is color that really makes the world go round. There are a few left here in Athens and Oconee County, but not many. Tim Bryant always conducted the same interview with him annually and it amounted to "Well, not much progress in getting the horse racing bill passed?" I swear if Republicans realized that the future economic growth in this state is indeed in ALL MATTERS equine, cannabis, medical and science, we could begin to actually see this state begin to recover. Here’s to you, D***** (warning could be a trigger)

Originally published in and since removed from the Georgia College and State University newspaper website: Here’s to you, D***** Here’s to you, D***** When I was a junior in highschool, I was 17 years old. At the age of 17, I was sexually harassed and threatened by the most popular guy in our school, who also happened to be a local legend. My last day of summer before high school started, an older friend gave me advice and said to never talk to this guy named D*****. I trusted my friend, so I didn’t ask questions, but if I could go back in time, I would have never spoken to D*****. Fast-forward from freshman year to junior year, first period, first semester: law class. The teacher is the wrestling coach from the school. First day of class he calls roll and D***** is sitting behind me in the row. My first thoughts were about how cute he was and wondering why I was told to never talk to him. Picture D***** as a very fit, very handsome, tan, bearded, football player, musc

World of Wonder playground to be replaced

It is a real shame that this community built playground will be replaced, but it is proof that government can come in and make decisions, however unpopular at the time, that are indeed in the best interests of the local residents and visitors who come to Athens on a regular basis. My son Lowell celebrated a birthday or two at World of Wonder, and many thanks still need to go to my friend Laurel Loftin of the Athens-Clarke County Water Conservation program for organizing this Herculean effort to get the thing built more than a decade ago.  World of Wonder playground to be replaced
