January 11, 1952 Red and Black newspaper editorial written by my father

The Red and Black newspaper News Editor Dan Matthews, Sr. page 4 editorial January 11, 1952 Crowing or Clucking The legislature cock is commencing to crow. As the representatives empty into Atlanta from 159 sources and start falling to one side of the fence or another, the chanticleer perches firmly in the center of the top rail and voices his harsh welcome. The old bird seems to herald the dawn of a bright and progressive morning. Bills are floating through the smoky rooms toward the hopper with features to bear him out. Legislation on highways, tax-repeal, schools, pensions and other universally popular subjects all seem bound to come to pass. Retired EPA employee Kate McDaniel pens a well-written piece describing the downfall of the Keep Oconee Clean commission by the Board of Commissioners. Let us hope we can work out a way to reinstall this important environmental group on a local basis. Oconee mistaken to cut Clean panel | Opinion | OnlineAthens.com Shared via AddThis

Pat Priest pens another powerful local column

Well written editorial by Oconee's own Helwigs demomnstrates Congressman Broud's hypocrisy on torture and four way test

Angela Helwig works in the Board of Commissioners office and is a true patriot in every sense of the word. She loves her country and volunteers her time in a variety of ways. Her editorial co-written with her husband shows how much of a hole Congressman Dr. Paul Broun has dug himself in every time he preaches the so called Four Way Test.

May I ask for your vote in a semi-anonymous Athens Banner-Herald popularity contest?

Even if you do not agree with me and my progressive views, I would like to ask for your support and possible vote and or positive comments about an editorial I wrote for the Athens Banner-Herald at You can click on that link or paste this in your browser. http://www.onlineathens.com/stories/082607/opinion_entry22.shtml You can vote at the bottom and leave comments but I would ask that you do not use my name in your comments. This column should have been paired with another column they chose to publish as a letter to the editor in last week's newspaper here I have about a third of some of the totals of the other 30 something writers, so obviously I need to get some more votes. I have written for the Banner-Herald for the better part of two decades in sports, features, letters to the Editor, etc. Thanks for your consideration, and if you have any questions, you can leave them here
