Shadow Board of Education forms for Trans-Oconee Republic

As the self proclaimed Emperor of the Trans Oconee Republic, I hereby deem the shadow Board of Education appointed with Rich Clark, Ashley Hood, Chuck Toney and Kyle Martin as charter members. Their roles shall be to foster understanding between parents and teachers, administrators and the populace, to explain where our monies have been going, why we pay two Superintendents at the same time, and why Dr. Tom Dohrmann was expelled. Together we will make a better burrito than Barberitos and have school lunches kids will actually eat, covet and enjoy. Our softball coaches will no longer diddle their students, past, present or future. Our football teams will craft the offensive schemes to our quarterback's needs, creating the West Coast offense for Zach Mettenbergers. Three point lines will be painted all on basketball courts and all children will make a minimum of ten a day. The Brodrick family shall lead the entire student populace on a bike/race/jog/walk around the schools every day.

Oconee County government SPLOST Upcoming by Lee Becker

Lee Becker once again is ahead of the curve in the local media in anticipating local government action and reaction. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Lee Becker < lbbecker@mindspring.com > Date: Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 10:54 PM Subject: SPLOST Upcoming To: lbbecker@mindspring.com Dear Friends, In the next two weeks, the Board of Commissioners will fashion a tax sales tax package it hopes you will approve in March of 2009. The county has come to depend on the "special purpose" sales tax to fund lots of routine activities and to pay off debt for projects approved far in the past. Some local citizens think part of the county's pitch for the continuation of the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) should be some local projects the county has so far ignored, such as historic and scenic site and farmland protection. For a primer on the upcoming SPLOST and the key meetings on Nov. 20, Nov. 25 and Dec. 2, go to my blog at http://www.oconeecoun

We simply cannot get over it.    I have been reading voraciously since November 5 and have enclosed three articles and one cartoon - sent by my brother Dave - that had a special impact. The impact of Obama's election on Kenyans is especially fascinating.    To quote Garrison Keilor (see more below),   "The French junior minister for human rights said, 'On this morning, we all want to be American so we can take a bite of this dream unfolding before our eyes.'"    Our next Moores Ford Memor
