Generic robo call to save HOPE scholarship

I just received a generic robo call from a college girl complaining that the cuts to the HOPE scholarship will prevent her parents from getting the tuition break they deserve. No accreditation to the call, but the number 404-239-9920 in an unpublished landline in Cobb County. The vote is Tuesday to prevent a large section of Georgia parents from qualifying for full HOPE Scholarship eligibility. The call did mention something about Zell Miller's scholarship

Random reasons I love living in Oconee County, Georgia

From time to time I like to reflect why I love living where I do, so the following is not in any particular order of why I live in Watkinsville, Georgia: Safe neighborhoods. We have had one major accident in 10 years here in Morgan Manor Estates, and only one instance of anyone getting anything ripped off that I am aware of. People mind their own business. I do not get many solicitors or religious fanatics coming door to door. When they do ring my doorbell they get a face full of pit bull terrier. When your dog runs away, it usually comes home. And you can usually find it if it is not too dark and late. Otherwise you wake up to a very cold, sore and groggy doggie. People aren't too judgmental, except about the crap you leave in your carport. I need to throw more stuff away and luckily my son has taken it upon himself to organize his various athletic endeavors. I am seeking professional help to get myself less domestically challenged. Weirdness is tolerated and generally not

Free program this evening at Oconee Library involving reptiles and amphibians

Hello, fellow Democrats! Tonight's free and family-friendly event at the Oconee library should be interesting and fun. Students from UGA's Herpetological Society will bring reptiles and amphibians for people to learn about and handle. The young scientists will also talk about hibernation and provide suggestions about things we can do in our own backyards to help native wildlife. The community book group's book for March is "The Killer Angels," a great Pulitzer Prize-winning book about the Battle of Gettysburg. It's a quick read, too! That's Wednesday, March 30th, at 7 PM at the Taco Stand in the Publix Shopping Center in Watkinsville. Both events have been organized by the Oconee Democrats. We want to show what we care about: science, nature, history, conversation, families, and more! Join us! Pat Priest

Outside of Home Depot at the other end of the road. Photo by Dan Matthews As I wrote in the comments of this article on the Athens Banner-Herald's website, I believe the project was tainted with the wetlands swap fiasco with Greene County. I do hope for success at the movie theaters, and I wonder how this quicky approaching road will change the landscape both economically and traffic wise in the Oconee-Clarke sector. The new Epps Bridge Parkway will be known for a lot more than the place where we hire day laborers outside of the Home Depot.
