Overview of 2012 Oconee County GOP Primary - 117th edition

Image
I urge everyone to grab a Republican ballot in the forthcoming primary and vote for those who they think will do the best for Oconee County, Georgia. I have had neighbors and other folks ask me to share my recommendations for this GOP primary. You do not have to declare an allegiance but you must ask for a Republican ballot when you enter the building in the next nine days of advance voting or polling place on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 to have any impact on the local leadership. Early voting has begun and it has been quite brisk at the little brick building next to the Oconee County Courthouse on Court Street in Watkinsville in what is called the Board of Elections and Registration office. I think one other person was in there yesterday when I went in there during my lunch hour. First of all, the easiest election recommendation will be for those three precincts bordering Athens-Clarke County in Malcolm Bridge, Athens Academy and Bogart that have been sliced into the new 117th ...

Oconee County Sheriff Candidates Debate Methods of Law Enforcement at Packed Political Forum

Oconee Sheriff Candidates Debate Methods of Law Enforcement at Packed Political Forum

Everyone is always welcome at every Oconee Democrats meeting

Some Oconee County residents seem to be rather angry and seemingly insulted about the way we run the Oconee County Democratic Committee meetings. Well guess what, if you aren't attending these meetings, we don't care. We will always welcome you back with open arms. Seems that things are getting pretty ugly and uncivil about the people who are and are not coming this evening.  Some people even seem to know what emails I have and have not sent. We remain flexible, fluid and open to compromise and change. Despite the fact that voting tends to be 3-to-1 Republican to Democrat in the general election, there are a lot of local people who want to have a voice in local politics. We encourage our members to cross over and pick up a Republican ballot on the Primary July 31 or before to have input on who will be our leaders. It makes perfect sense to me that the majority Republican vote will be roughly split down the middle in many of the contested races, thus making the Democratic ...

Last day to register to vote in primaries is July 2

Everyone is welcome to every Oconee County Democratic Committee meeting (especially candidates)

The Oconee County Democratic Committee has two meetings (June 21 and July 19) before the GOP Primary on July 31. We welcome any and all candidates, voters, media, and any other interested individuals to ANY AND ALL meetings ANYTIME, be they Republican, Democratic, independent, Green, Libertarian or none of the above.  The only exception to that in the decades I have been involved with the local Democratic party are the annual caucuses, and these are not caucuses. To anyone who has either attended or involved themselves in any of the political forums, God bless you, but for God's sake, they are generally incredibly contrived and boring for the most part. Since the Democratic party has no candidates this time around, and we would like to be involved in the local political process, we have encouraged our more active and voting members to "cross over" and select a Republican ballot to get our two cents worth in the local political process. I have done this for every Prima...
