What impact do you want to leave behind?

Most all of us are motivated by wanting to leave a positive impact as our legacy. I know last night I had to console a very sad 12-year-old basketball player who was equally disappointed that his team lost by missing a last second shot and his lack of playing time to make an impact on the outcome. I write this not to reflect poorly on his coach or teammates, but to reflect on the passing of Whitney Houston and wondering what we will all be remembered by when we pass. That is the one thing we unquestionably have in common no matter what our believes or faith. But let us strive to understand and appreciate our differences as something to celebrate rather than discriminate. Oconee County Georgia is an amazing and refined suburban location for anyone to visit or relocate. It is where I call home. I love living here and owning a home here. I planted two trees yesterday given to me by Watkinsville Mayor Charles Ivie and City Clerk Julie Sanders that may live a lot longer than me if I am

Athens Academy 6th grade basketball team hosts Madison County 8:30 pm Friday in Athens Premier League title tilt

The Athens Academy boys 6th grade basketball team, coached by Chris Pittard, will play for its second Premier League post-season tournament title in three years 8:30 pm Friday at the Spartan Center hosting Madison County. The Spartans squad, led by lengthy all-stars Alex Deltchev and Taylor Boswell, took out a scrappy Morgan County team 29-15 Thursday evening in the Oconee Auxiliary Gym at the back of Oconee County High School. Joe Colley and Lowell Matthews played well off the bench getting rebounds, blocked shots, and assists by the bucketful. Slashing and versatile Conner Hatch hit another last second jump shot at the end of the third quarter, just barely inside the three point stripe. Athens Academy jumped out to a 10-0 lead before the scrappy Morgan County team climbed back to make it a contest. The Spartans' Owen Roberts nailed a jumper and made the three point shoot out as part of the all star festivities Saturday. Colley went three-for-four from the charity stripe. Av

Athens redistricting gets even more complicated | Online Athens

It would be real easy to write even at this fairly premature point "See, you really should have voted for me instead of this failed banker." But at the very least, I certainly would have been available for comment and not meddled in Athens/Clarke County redistricting matters.
