Saner voices within the GOP get no hearing, so I make the first cross party endorsement in the 2014 GA. GOP Primary

I endorse Gary Gerrard of Lexington, Georgia in the GOP Primary for Congress in the 10th District for the right to face Ken Dious in November 2014. That said, I wish my Democratic seal of approval weren't the kiss of death amongst the more fanatical fringe that is unfortunately the mainstream of the Republican right in 2013. Mr. Gerrard demonstrates a broad depth of knowledge of the issues and a basic understanding of how government actually functions that is sadly lacking in most Republican lawmakers these days. So many thanks to Pat Priest, Pat Adams, and Sarajane Love for coming out on a Saturday morning for an hour of picking up garbage on the Oconee Connector this morning. Found a pair of credit cards amongst the many cups, cigarette butts, and wrappers along both sides of the busy road. In case you want to join us, here is where we meet, right besides the QuikTrip: This is where we gather to pick up garbage along the Oconee Connector once a quarter. Congressman Broun voted in support of this spending bill, and he now urges his friends in the Senate to pass this bill without delay. Deal ditches ethics complaint after getting new boss to blast charges - AJC

The head of Georgia’s ethics commission  is accused of improperly intervening  into an investigation of Gov. Nathan Deal, raising serious questions about the independence of the state panel charged with keeping watch over Georgia’s elected officials. Current and former commission employees told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Wednesday that Holly LaBerge ordered documents removed from the official state investigative file on Deal and met with top aides to the Republican governor while the probe was ongoing. The revelations are the latest chapter in a long-running saga that began on the campaign trail and still dogs the governor and his aides, though Deal’s camp has maintained the accusations are politically motivated. The major charges against Deal were dismissed, and he was slapped with a small penalty for technical defects on his campaign filings. Afterward, staffers say LaBerge boasted that the governor “owed” her for making his legal troubles disappear. Reached by ph

Paul Broun . Last year, the Georgia Republican filed amendments to his FEC reports revealing he had lied about the true source of thousands of dollars in loans he made to his own campaign. Although he previously claimed he loaned his campaign the money, the amended reports show Rep. Broun had taken out a home equity loan. Following a complaint filed by CREW, the FEC is investigating whether Rep. Broun broke campaign finance laws. After deceiving the FEC and his constituents for years, Rep. Broun still has not answered lingering questions about the funds, ensuring his place on CREW's list of the Most Corrupt Members of Congress
