Stokes Announces Gubernatorial Bid
Our citizens deserve our attention, accountability and investment

Atlanta, Ga. - Sept. 19, 2013 - Former State Senator and DeKalb County Commissioner Connie Stokes made her bid for Governor of Georgia official this week. Stokes filed the necessary paperwork for her campaign and will begin a statewide tour in the coming weeks.

"I stand for common sense solutions to create a strong and prosperous Georgia that works for all of our citizens. It's important to stand up for the working families of our state who are struggling to pay their mortgage, buy health insurance and put food on the table," said Stokes.

Stokes said she believes Georgia's biggest asset is it citizens and her platform will focus on a Five for the Future plan to focus on the most important aspects of building a Georgia we can all be proud of.

"Our citizens deserve our attention, accountability and investment. Every policy decision we make at the state level should focus on creating jobs, creating communities that work, building strong families, creating an educated workforce and guaranteeing an honest and transparent government that works for everyone. I will not be distracted from this course," Stokes said.

Stokes said for too long the state government has been too tilted in favor of short-term financial gain for some, instead of long-term employment and economic growth for all.  A decade-long Republican agenda has strained the state's economy, resulting in severe cuts in public education, public health and has not advanced the creation of jobs, transportation or full economic recovery.

In recent news, Stokes said the current Governor has demonstrated a pattern of misconduct. From his congressional days, through his current administration, Deal has demonstrated that he has a disregard for the rules.

"The people of Georgia want a government that is accountable. Georgians want and need a leader who will answer to them, not act in his own personal interest," said Stokes.

Georgia Democrats have asked for a number of ethics reforms over many years.

Stokes will begin a statewide tour in coming weeks. The tour schedule will be announced soon
