Celebrate President Obama's birthday with Adopt-a-road cleanup 8:00 am this Saturday

Image
. Another friendly reminder that the Oconee Democrats will meet next Saturday, Aug. 6., at 8:00 a.m. at the Oconee Connector fire station (next to the new QT) to clean up our adopted mile of road.  This project is part of the national observance of President Obama's birthday and we will be joining Democrats around the state and country in community service projects. NOTE: Please join us at Krimson's Kafe at 11:30 for lunch and fellowship, whether or not you can participate in the cleanup. I predict a break in the ridiculously hot weather by next Saturday! See you then. Sarajane Love P.S. Don't forget to bring a pair of work gloves. __._,_.___   __,_._,___

Emergency rally this Tuesday at Republican offices of Dr. Paul Broun

Why would anyone want to derail the American economy with lowered bond ratings? That is what it seems Dr. Broun is hellbent on, so I suggest we the people politely remind him that is not what we want in the 10th District of Georgia. Please visit his office next to the Georgia Square Mall this Tuesday at noon. From: "Daniel Mintz, MoveOn.org Civic Action"  Date: July 30, 2011 9:18:52 AM EDT To: "Dan Matthews"  Subject: Emergency rally this Tuesday at Republican offices Republicans are about to drive the U.S. economy off a cliff. That's why   we're gathering at noon on Tuesday at GOP offices around the country —to let them know that the majority of Americans oppose what they're doing. Can you join?     Click here to RSVP Dear Dan, Hear that? Those are the alarm bells sounding.   Republicans are pushing our nation off an economic cliff—and   we need all of us, our neighbors, family, and friends for a national demonstration of power. At noon

Some metro Atlanta post offices considered for closure  | ajc.com

NEWSFLASH nothing remotely close is being considered for closure, although the tiny community of Oconee outside of Milledgeville is on the list . I would imagine, and have no proof one way or the other, that Bishop and North High Shoals are probably on the proverbial chopping block . Oconee library looks to keep drawing in patrons even as cuts force shorter hours || OnlineAthens.com

It is a sad commentary on our local governments that we have to close the doors of the local libraries earlier instead of fulling funding them. But brava to Jackie Elsner for making a bad situation better. I think we can do better, don't you?
