There is a legitimate write in candidate in the 10th district vs. Paul Broun

His name is Brian Russell Brown, and he is from Augusta, and he has qualified as a write in candidate before for other offices. He writes letters to the editor at the Augusta newspaper, and very little is known about him beyond that. Here is a link to the certified write in candidates in Georgia http://www.sos.ga.gov/Elections/2012CertifiedWriteIn.pdf Heard from him yesterday and he needs office supplies and wants to balance the budget.

Needing more information about which candidate to vote for in the 10th district Congressional Election?

Here is some interesting information about the race between Dr. Paul Broun, Jr. and Barry Fleming for the U.S. Congressional race in the 10th district of Georgia. Not sure if this appeared in the Athens paper yet, but the comments are particularly embittered from an Augusta angle. Another well written story from Blake Aued at the Banner-Herald.

Independent congressional candidacy of Jefferson's James P. Mason will effect Broun, Saxon, Fleming (photo of Barry and hometown museum sign on I-20)

Tire store marketing employee James P. Mason of Jefferson intends to enter his name on the ballot of the 10th district U.S. Congressional election here in Athens (and Augusta and north to the border), and I think his long shot independent candidacy will have equal effect on the Republican or Democratic candidates. I salute the former Marine who served his country in Afghanistan who has taken on the established parties. We shall see how effectively young Mr. Mason markets himself in the rather disjointed district stretching from the Central Savannah River Area to the Mountains of North Carolina with a dip in Watkinsville and Washington-Wilkes. Only one thing is for certain, Nicholson resident Bobby Saxon should have talked to his fellow Jackson County veteran in Mason and figured out why (or at least what is prompting him) he is going to run. Conventional political wisdom would prescribe that the Mason wild card will siphon off some votes from both sides of the aisle, but probably hur...

Fleming's phlegm hacked up all over Tim Bryant

State Representative and newly announced 10th district congressional candidate Barry Fleming belched forth all the typical platitudes short on specifics on the conservative gab-fest on 1340 WGAU AM right now. I wish I could come up with something insightful, but instead I am reaching for the trash can. Barry Fleming wants to do away with local control over our government, i.e. the Glenn Tax, and I hate paying property taxes as much as the next homeowner, but I do not want some bozo in Atlanta or Washington dictating how the city of Watkinsville and Oconee County can use our tax money. PS Barry Fleming just went third person in reference to himself.

Will Starsky announce next?

Because now we have Dr. " Hutch " announced in the 10th Congressional District Special election, making it half a dozen candidates for the non-partisan partisan election June 19th to fill the seat of the late Dr. Charlie Norwood and inevitable run-off two weeks later. Dr. Paul Broun, Jr. of Oconee County would appear to be the loser today with another activist staunch conservative Doctor and Real Estate Agent (what a combo!) taking the potential vote from him in McDuffie and Columbia and the top tier of Richmond Counties near Augusta. The links in the Augusta Chronicle article do not reveal that conservative activist Braselton's Bill Greene is also a member of the wanna-be militia bastardizing the name Minutemen. It again illustrates how much Athens and Auugusta have nothing to do with one and other politically or media-wise. And the state Democratic officials continue to let McDuffie County's Terry Holley hang in the wind while preaching that they are seeking some ot...

Whitehead tosses his hat in the ring

Another Republican Charlie Norwood wanna be emerges from Augusta...Whitehead to run for Congress By Valerie Rowell | Columbia County Bureau Monday, Feb. 19, 2007 9:54 a.m. State Sen. Jim Whitehead announced Monday that he will join the race to fill the congressional seat vacated by the death of Charlie Norwood. Mr. Whitehead, R-Evans, announced his intention to run during a news conference at the Columbia County Government Complex in Evans. "I can't be Charlie Norwood, but I think I can be Jim Whitehead. I think I can make you proud," Mr. Whitehead said. "I had such a deep respect for Charlie, a close friendship with a great man and this compels me to run for this office." Mr. Norwood, who represented Georgia's 10th Congressional District, died Feb. 13. Gov. Sonny Perdue will call for a special election to fill the seat. State Rep. Barry Fleming, R-Harlem, who also had been mentioned as a candidate, introduced Mr. Whitehead at the news conference and announc...
