Community Book Group selection for July

Image
The community book group sponsored by the Oconee Democrats is reading  the Pulitzer Prize-winning " Pilgrim at Tinker Creek " for our July book. The author, Annie Dillard, characterizes the book simply as "narrative  non-fiction," while reviewers describe this lovely classic about the  natural world as "masterful" and a "book of wonder." Copies are available at Books Galore in Watkinsville for a 25% discount  (though you should call first to see if copies remain before you head  out to buy one: 706/769-1443). The group will meet in the "glass room" at the Oconee County library  this month. That's on your right as soon as you enter the building. We always meet the last Wednesday of each month. We'll meet at 6:30 PM  -- on Wednesday, July 27th. Participants hail from several different counties. Newcomers are always  welcomed! Happy Independence Day weekend! Pat Priest

Campaign schedule for the weekend...

Help out if you can To: undisclosed recipients: ; Subject: Campaign schedule for the weekend...   Hi Team Dan! We knew this was going to be an intensive, all-important time for our Democratic candidate, and that even more volunteer man/woman hours would be required to usher our man Dan to the Georgia State House. Here is the schedule for this holiday weekend. Can you please pledge two hours Saturday? Sunday? Monday? These phonebanking and neighborhood canvassing opportunities are the way Democrats win elections in districts like this, and they really are fun. We talk to and meet only Democrats, who are very appreciative of the reminders and information. This is something that could easily be rectified with a new state code permitting backyard chickens, but unfortunately this is a Chatham County edict evidently. Paula Deen's chickens could be evicted as county cracks down on zoning | savannahnow.com

Balancing act  | ajcjobs.com

Very cool story about an Oconee County softball player who has a sports scholarship to Georgia State and also taking nursing school (brava!). I know the Knights across the street from me in Morgan Manor Estates in Watkinsville can relate to this dual track course between nursing and softball. Balancing act | ajcjobs.com
