Samantha Purcell not seeking re-election to Watkinsville City Council, Mike Huff is

After a decade in office, Samantha Purcell has decided that her time and tenure on the Watkinsville City Council will come to an end. Mike Huff of Watkinsville will reportedly seek the position. According to the Oconee Enterprise, he is a neophyte in the political realm but seems to favor the "Red Dawn" school of films, according to his Facebook page.

Watkinsville Taco Stand reportedly closing in November?

Say it ain't so! This restaurant has been part of my family, and I hope it finds a way to stay open. This would apply to the Butler's Crossing location only in Watkinsville, Oconee County. I hope this does not come to pass. The ownership changed not all that long ago, and I only think it has been open a couple of years at the most.

Pastures of Rose Creek: This Week's Harvest

The weeks for the Farmers Market are starting to dwindle down..... Sincerely,  Dan Matthews Date: Thu, 23 Aug 2012 16:56:39 -0400 Subject: Pastures of Rose Creek: This Week's Harvest From: pastures1051@gmail.com Hello again from The Pastures of Rose Creek! They're coming!!!  They're coming!!! FARM FRESH EGGS are just around the corner!  Just yesterday Ann discovered the first official egg from our batch of chickens.  We have raised these chickens since they were wee little chicks (March 2012) and they have now reached maturity and are ready to lay their first eggs.  These chickens are happy, free-ranging chickens who spend their days doing what chickens do best - eating bugs and grasses and fertilizing our fields!  And now they will be laying happy, healthy eggs...1 chicken will lay approximately 1 egg every 23 hours!  So, keep an eye out for our market table - you should be seeing FARM FRESH EGGS in about 2 weeks....

Berry needs to mend wounds at home, stay out of other county's politics

Everyone who reads this blog with regularity realizes I supported Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry in his recent re-election campaign, however his first official duty after winning the Primary made me at least pause to reconsider whether I should have supported Trey Downs or not. I do think Trey will be our next Sheriff in 2016. But this is about playing politics outside the county. That initial action by Berry upon winning another term was endorsing the runner up in the recent primary in former Sheriff Clayton Lowe in his attempt to regain the lead law enforcement officer position in nearby Madison County.  Lowe lost to current Sheriff Kip Thomas four years ago and Lowe was second in the Primary 15 days ago. The difference then was 500 votes and the difference tonight was 300. Tonight Thomas retained the Sheriff's office in the run off by a similar percentage as in the primary.  I would think most folks in any nearby county would bristle at the suggestion of an out of ...

Athens area Zaxby's locations to offer new breakfeast menu

I will reserve judgment until I have a few more breakfasts there - I enjoy eating at Kumquat Mae's entirely too much - maybe next Monday - until then nutburgers and marinated veggies and gluten free blueberry muffins - oh and the Granary rocks as well. We are blessed to have two such great bakeries within 100 yards of each other in Watkinsville. Each local, get beautiful. Athens area Zaxby's locations to offer new breakfeast menu
