All is well on the campaign trail 2012 pre-qualifying GOP edition

Even though I am not running for office this time, it is very entertaining for me to be on the other side of the political process, i.e. getting asked by candidates to vote for them. Qualifying is this week at the Oconee County Board of Elections and Registration in Watkinsville. This morning the Oconee County Democratic Committee manned (and woman-ed) a table to register voters. We did not have signs indicating such but were successful in having a presence there to let people know that the Democratic Party is alive and well in Georgia, and we are registering new voters. Oconee County is unusually well registered as a county populace, where something like 90% of those eligible to register have already. So a large portion of the people we handed registration forms to today were people who needed to change an address because of moving back into the county or whatever. We do not attempt to proselytize, persuade or otherwise engage in blanket recruitment tactics. We just want to increa

Oconee County Democratic Committee meets Thursday, May 17 at Government Annex

Image
The Oconee County Democratic Committee will be holding its regular monthly meeting 7:00 pm this evening, Thursday, May 17, 2012, at the Oconee County Government Annex at 1291 Greensboro Highway, Watkinsville, GA 30677. We meet in the back auditorium where the Department of Agriculture usually holds gatherings (not in the room where you go to vote, but kind of on that end of the building). Look for the room with framed portraits of President Barack Obama and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack. My name is Dan Matthews, and I am chair of the committee. My cell phone is 706-372-1062 if you get lost. We have had a full house the last several meetings with a 33% increase in membership. We have a new twitter account @oconeedems and a great new website . We would love for you to run for office, become a dues paying member of the party and our committee, and generally stay involved with local politics and issues. We may be hearing from someone who is a delegate in this fall's Democrat

Melvin Davis and Chuck Horton to Face Off in Race for Board of Commissioners Chair

This will be the most interesting race of the local GOP primary July 31 - even more so than the Sheriff's race. I predict long nights waiting for election returns even with the faster manner of counting ballots electronically. Melvin Davis and Chuck Horton to Face Off in Race for Board of Commissioners Chair

Bagley to run for Board of Education seat

Image
Chairman David Weeks, left, has announced he will not seek re-election, while Wayne Bagley, second from right, announced today that he will run for election for the first time after getting appointed to fill the seat left vacant by Tom Breedlove. I will hazard a guess that Kim Argo, center, will run for chair. I have no basis or clue for that other than intutition.
