How to handle Fall Festival and OCAF Wine Fest in one weekend

Image
I had a truly wonderful time at both events in downtown Watkinsville this weekend.  The fall festival and the wine fest are two separate events, at two neighboring locations, and I doubt I was the only one to try to do both these weekend at Rocket Field and Ashford Manor. The highlights of the fall festival were very  many and too numerous to mention, but here I go: 1. finally meeting Officer Berisko of the Oconee County Animal Shelter, 2. seeing Amanda Jane and having the lovely cheesecake cupcakes of her new business partner Bonnie at Little Cuckoo Chocolate booth, 3. having a crepe or two from Saphir and Kate at Holy Crepe, 4. meeting the husband and dad of my favorite Oconee County Animal Adoption people (thanks for Katrina), 5. finally meeting the wife of my favorite Oconee Enterprise journalist, 6. talking to random people I sat with including a very nice redhead who was attending with her parents and seemed to actually like Democratic people and wine, ...

Highlight of the Fall Festival was a helicopter ride

Image
I visited the 2014 Oconee County Fall Festival rolling on 3 different occasions, and by far the most enjoyable was the last when I ventured onto the Thomas property and took a helicopter ride with a company out of Gainesville Georgia who were kind of doing this as an experiment. Chad Haney of Select Helicopters was offering brief flights around the amazing 100 acres of the Thomas Property and over the fall festival and part of the industrial part of the east side of Watkinsville. But it was the best $45 ever spent.  It got me thinking about heliports, helipads, emergency response, Watkinsville's future, access to someone hurting in a crowd, and how we can all work together to make things better and safer for everyone. I had a great time seeing old friends and making new ones at the 2014 Oconee County Chamber of Commerce Fall Festival all over downtown Watkinsville but primarily focused on Rocket Field. It is remarkable how ancillary events like the Farmers Market and helico...

Final Farmers Market during the Oconee County Fall Festival

Hi Everyone! We will be part of the Fall Festival this Saturday at our usual spot in front of the Eagle Tavern. This week we are jam packed with fresh, locally grown produce, including shiitake mushrooms. We will have THE most wonderful variety of homemade pies, cookies, brownies, cakes and breads! We also will feature sales and demonstrations of making handmade brooms! The Clarke-Oconee Cattlemen's Association will be selling their famous smoked brisket and slicing some up for sandwiches, so be sure and stop by and see us! This will be our final market of this season, but we will return next spring. Thank you to all the vendors and patrons who have helped make the Farmer's Market a huge success! See you next year! Oconee County Democratic Committee yard sale during the Fall Festival

Image
We need your gently used items for a yard sale in two weeks. Please email me back or let me know if you have any items we can resell. Or you can tell from the forwarded email below how to get a hold of Rita to drop things off at her her house personally. She has a side porch that you can drop off items almost any time. We dropped off three boxes of toys and two bags of clothes yesterday. Woven brightly, Daniel J. Jim Ivey, Fall Festival, Veterans Memorial and more

Pardon the stream of consciousness rambling here, but somehow these ideas all tie together somehow I promise: Kudos to the Oconee County Chamber of Commerce and the army of volunteers for successfully pulling off yet another jam packed Oconee County Fall Festival, where some 15,000 people all pile in on Rocket Field and the surrounding area to sample crafts, corn dogs, BBQ, funnel cakes, sand candles and the like. I never understand why people torture their canines by insisting on bringing them to this gathering, but then again, I let my dog sleep inside at night (and during most of the day as well). Glad there were no neighbors foaming at the mouth this year. The Watkinsville Police Department gets high marks for keeping the crowd flow going well but the Oconee County Sheriff's Department should have people at the various traffic lights over riding the normal pattern to customize according to the need of the moment during the peak congestion hours. I for one have never understo...

In case you don't want corn dogs at the Fall Festival tomorrow

Brian Brodrick sent this link my way. A very special lady friend of mine eats there all the time to celebrate her closing on a house, etc. I would urge everyone to descend on Watkinsville Saturday for the annual Fall Festival. The national champion UGA Gym Dawgs of soon-to-be-retiring in two seasons Suzanne Yoculan will be there 10 am-12 noon but somehow I do not expect them to be performing routines on School Street. The Oconee County Democratic Committee is having a yard sale adjacent to the goings on at Rocket Field. It will be interesting to see if Bobby Saxon shows up after evidently cleaning house with his campaign staff. Any rumor mongers out there have any knowledge of what is up on that score?
