Defend Cumberland Island's Wilderness

Image
Hi! I just sent a message encouraging the National Park Service to defend Cumberland Island's wilderness. You can do the same by following this link:                 Defend Cumberland Island’s Wilderness Dear Friend, Congress directed the National Park Service (NPS) to offer guided, motorized tours of historic districts in wilderness-designated area at the north end of Cumberland Island. NPS has proposed a shuttle system to drop off and pick up visitors throughout this protected area, which inappropriately expands on the congressional mandate. Help defend Cumberland Island's wilderness by telling the NPS to prioritize wilderness values as it considers conducting tours of historic sites. Problem: In 2004, Congress passed Public Law 108-447 removing portions

Epps Bridge Centre Vote Details from Lee Becker and Oconee County Observations

Once again commerce trumps concern over traffic, environment, roads, and quality of life. I guess that anyone is willing to build anything in this recession is enough to shove the public's questions aside. The following features links to Lee Becker's broadsides against the less enlightened elements of the Oconee County, Georgia government. So now we will have a third of the stores even without the much-ballyhooed road and bridge. From: Lee Becker < lbbecker@mindspring.com > Date: Wed, Oct 8, 2008 at 10:57 PM Subject: Epps Bridge Centre Vote Details Dear Friends, As I promised, I've provided some more details of the Epps Bridge Centre vote of last night on my blog. The BOC voted to approve the project despite the fact that what the developer promised to do is not doable at present because he lacks a roadway to his project and needed state and federal permits for wetland and stream destruction. The details are at http://www.oconeecountyobservations.blogspot.co

John McCain does not have Presidential temperament

John McCain is dangerous to not only us but the rest of the world. We do not need his itchy finger on the trigger of our nuclear weapons.

Local author gets some love on You Tube

From the author: "I wanted my Book Trailer to convey the cozy "feel" of a home movie - not the impersonal look of a commercial production. Relax and enjoy the soothing illustrations, the gentle voice and music, as well as the glimpse of the "mom" sharing a book with her child. A bedtime story is where the Journey into Reading begins, and this is such an important journey - I hope you will treasure each step."

Margaret Hale voted against. The Commissioners showed indifference to the environmental issues. They were concerned about the traffic problems that the shopping mall will create. In the end, they did nothing about these. The developer admitted in response to a report I made that he does NOT have a permit from the Corps of Engineers for the project and does not have a variance from the state. The Corps confirmed to me late yesterday that no permits have been issued. I'll provide more details later. Lee

Dear Daniel, The Democratic Party of Georgia is please to announce that through the Campaign for Change, our coordinated campaign with Obama for America, we have registered over 200,000 new voters in just six months. These voters will be eligible to vote in one of the most important elections of our lifetime.
