Water and Sewer Rates in Oconee to Increase

Begin forwarded message: From: Lee Becker < lbbecker@mindspring.com > Date: April 16, 2009 10:48:54 PM EDT To: lbbecker@mindspring.com Subject: Water and Sewer Rates in Oconee to Increase Reply-To: lbbecker@mindspring.com Friends, Oconee County residential water users will be asked for the second time in a little more than a year to pay more for water, if the Board of Commissioners approves a budget request made Wednesday night by the Utility Department. The increase of 31.8 percent in the base water rate is needed to compensate for a decrease in water sales and consequent decrease in revenues for the Utility Department, the BOC was told. Sewer rates also would increase, if the Board accepts the proposal, by 24.0 percent. Tonight's Oconee County BOC Meeting with SPLOST, sewage expansion and dead man's curve on Daniells Bridge Road

You can attend this and maybe hear the local returns quicker than anybody (although they will be on the internet just as quickly), Daniel J. Matthews, Jr. Thanks as always Lee for the excellent update on further possible shenanigans with the Oconee County Board of Commissioners.  Subject: Tomorrow's BOC Meeting    Dear Daniells Bridge Road Petition Signer,    The Board of Commissioners is scheduled to deal with three very  important issues at its regular meeting tomorrow night:    1. A decision to put a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax on the  ballot in March.    2. A decision on a rezone just east of the blind curve on Daniells  Bridge Road.    3. A decision on how to expand sewage treatment capacity in the county.    If the Board decides to ask voters to approve the continuation of the 1  cent on a dollar sales tax rather than let it expire at the end of 2009,  it also will decide how...

Back in the saddle again

I have been negligent in my posting with various responsibilities and illness. Persevere kind reader and find the following links from the Oconee Banner-Herald, oops I mean Athens of course. First, SICKNESS, everybody wash their hands, cover their mouths after coughing and please keep your kids out of school if they are sick. With spring break next week, perhaps we shall see some abatement of the massive amounts of flu, bronchitis, et cetera that seems to be decimating our school system ranks Second, THANKS, to the kid Cameron K. from across the street for bringing my dog back after she nefariously decided to sneak down the street with the long-ass chain still around her neck yesterday morning. Third, NO THANKS to my son for flushing copious amounts of paper towels wrapped around fingernail clippers down his loo. He did handle an afterschool crisis at school with diplomatic aplomb though so I have to give him credit where credit is due. Fourth, GLAD WE CAN ALL GET ALONG DEPARTMENT, to...
