A primer to getting published at Oconee Politics

Thank you very much for taking the time and trouble to read my web log. This entry is an attempt at facilitating some better understanding on my guidelines for the publishing of comments, or reactions to what I have written. Generally writing, I will publish any dissenting viewpoint as long as it refrains from most personal attacks. In other words, it would be fine to write " I do not agree with the post for reasons X, Y and Z ." When questions of a person's intellect or lack there of, persona, religious belief, heritage, family, pets, vehicles, et cetera, it is almost always destined for the rejected pile. I attempt to tell you this in order for you to not waste any of my precious time or yours in asking, for example, how ignorant I may be of the ways of the local Republican party. I profess near complete ignorance to the inner workings of the members of the Republican party. I believe I have been to one meeting in the last several years and it was when my favorite Univ

Our tax dollars at work: stripper surveillance

America's Least Trusted How a Clermont stripper ended up under FBI surveillance By Coley Ward Creative Loafing Published December 28, 2005 Tabby Chase works nights as a dancer at the Clermont Lounge, so she was asleep the morning of Thurs., March 17, when she says FBI Special Agent Dante Jones called her. Chase says she didn't know what the FBI wanted. When she awoke, it was late afternoon, and she had five messages from three numbers. She says each was from Jones, telling her the FBI needed to ask some questions. Chase is tall and thin, with hair buzzed to about a quarter-inch, except for long blond bangs that routinely fall in her face. She describes herself as a flaky anarchist, somebody who has an inherent distrust of government and big business but who is "terrible at outreach" and "not involved in any organizing." She says she has never been arrested, and her FBI file confirms that. The file, which CL obtained from the ACLU, is five pages long, but thr

Planning Commission debacle, part six

More on the disgrace of the procedure appointing people to the Oconee County planning commission

More sleaze crawls out of local G.O.P. cover-up of Iveygate

Whether or not you think former Chairman of Board of Commissioners Wendell Dawson is a legitimate news source or not, he does ask some very pertinent questions which need some serious and quick answering by a wide swath of powerfully placed people in the Oconee County goverment and elsewhere. To do anything else is a slap in the face of the many veterans who have served and are continuing to serve our country. I still wonder why Tim Bryant won't address this topic on his radio show. Who gave the NEW money to the County Attorney?

Forget politics. This is unbelievable. It is a sad day for every child in Oconee County (and elsewhere) who has visited Washington Farms. Having covered a few animal control authority meetings, I know Catlyn Manor is not going to be real happy when she returns from being out of town. I have some experience with Bull Mastiffs and generally they are a very patient breed, and a friend of my dad in Madison was the President of the Bull Mastiff society of America. I had taken care of them on occasion. There is almost no excuse for letting the dog packs roam wild, even out in the relatively rural area near Moore's Ford Road. The owners should be publically identified and fined heavily and not allowed to own any more animals. OnlineAthens.com News Dog pack slaughters zoo animals 12/30/05

OnlineAthens.com | News | 10 apply to fill seat on planning commission 12/29/05

Athens Banner-Herald journalist Merritt Melanancon may have inadvertently left one of the applicants out of the mix in the list of the seven on-time applicants at the end of the page, or it might have been excised by an over-exuberant editor. Any way, I - Dan Matthews - am also one of the candidates that went before the Board of Commissioners chambers a Monday or so agp and made my pitch as to why I should be on the Planning Commission. It was at least my third time trying to get on the Planning Commission but I doubt it will be the charm. An elected official pointed out the obvious to me: {1} I am a resident of Watkinsville. {2) I am chairman of the local Democratic committee. {3} I am not a good old boy or part of the development brigade. Three strikes and I am out. I will keep trying despite what some anonymous individuals continue to slander and libel and stalk me. The whole thing is: why have deadline if they are not going to be enforced? If I am late with a story about the Watki

Corn's take on GOP insecurity (borrowed)

The GOP's Insecurity Card David Corn December 22, 2005 David Corn writes The Loyal Opposition twice a month for TomPaine.com. Corn is also the Washington editor of The Nation and is the author of The Lies of George W. Bush: Mastering the Politics of Deception (Crown Publishers). Read his blog at http://www.davidcorn.com . Whenever the opportunity arises to remind the public of the political lows reached by George W. Bush and the GOP in the down-and-dirty 2002 congressional campaign, it's worth doing. And now is a particularly appropriate time to do so, for it appears that the Republicans and their conservative allies, peering ahead to the 2006 elections, are reprising the strategy that kept them in power on Capitol Hill three years ago. A year after 9/11, Bush—who had vowed to end divisive politics in Washington—hit the campaign trail for Republican congressional candidates and hurled the most divisive rhetoric. He accused Democrats, who were insisting that the bill establish
