In other NHS news……..Mayor Kraeling announced that she would not be seeking re-election.  On October 24 th the council will be hosting a town meeting at High Shoals Elementary School to listen to resident ideas on two SPLOST projects: roads and town hall.  Community members are concerned about the decrease in hours and danger of closing of our post office; they want to make sure people are aware of it and

This week's market

Go get some fresh local food behind Eagle Tavern this Saturday morning Sincerely,  Dan Matthews Date: Thu, 1 Sep 2011 07:56:11 -0700 From: oconeefm@yahoo.com Subject: this week's market To: Please come join us this Saturday morning at the Oconee Farmers Market behind the Eagle Tavern. This is week two of scuppernong season. Not only can you buy them fresh, but you can get them in the form of scuppernong pie! It's also the middle of Georgia's pear season. Try a sample of pear butter! Fall may be coming, but there are lots of late summer vegetables: tomatoes, sweet corn, peppers, okra and squash, to name a few. Our vendors will also be bringing grass-fed Senepol beef, pound cakes, pies (pecan, peach, sweet potato, apple, chess, pear, and the aforementioned scuppernong), muffins, banana bread, cakes, cookies, dog biscuits, boiled and fried peanuts, pork skins, beef jerky, jam, local wildflower and sourwood honey, lip balms, and shea butter products. Two Candidates Emerge for Mayor of Watkinsville - Oconee, GA Patch

Two Candidates Emerge for Mayor of Watkinsville - Oconee, GA Patch

I love Watkinsville

....to borrow a campaign phrase from current city council member Samantha Purcell, which is why I filed the paperwork and paid the fee to qualify and run for the office of Mayor of Watkinsville.  The election is Tuesday, November 8th, 2011. I do have opposition in Charles Ivie, who was on the council in early 1970s. I have attended many city council meetings and have learned a lot from Mayor Joe Walter and his predecessor Jim Luken. I hope I garner enough votes and support November 8th to continue to work with the current city council members Mike Link, Brian Brodrick, Samantha Purcell and Toby Smith. Watkinsville is a wonderful place to live, and I want to make sure it remains so. Please consider voting for me Tuesday, November 8th, 2011 or the two weeks or so of advance voting before. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 706-769-1131. Thank you for your consideration

New Superior Court judge for the Western Circuit

The Georgia Legislature will vote on a new Superior Court Judge for Oconee and Clarke counties in the next session in January, 2012 after the recommendation of the Judicial Council of Georgia. Given the number of applicants last time for the Judgeship now occupied by Patrick Haggard, I would well imagine there will be more than a dozen folks wanting to be appointed or elected, not exactly sure how the "expansion" Judges begin their terms for the six recommended slots across the state.
