Thank you letter from N. High Shoals city council member Steve Arnold

Thanks again North High Shoals and Oconee County: In a follow-up to a very successful “Support our Soldiers” Christmas project, the Town of North High Shoals stepped up once again to show support for local servicemen. The soldiers we sent boxes of items to last December are serving stateside now but they encouraged us to help other soldiers who are currently overseas. Our local soldier this time is Marcus Barton who is now serving in Afghanistan. He is the grandson of longtime Oconee County and North High Shoals resident Ms. Myrtice Kilpatrick. As in December, we were blown away with the contributions that many local residents and others provided. The two local Oconee newspapers and even the Athens paper helped to get the word out. A variety of items were donated including books, magazines, puzzles, spiritual materials, CDs, DVDs, candy, food items, socks, snacks, toiletries and much more. Some folks sent cash which was used to buy other items including some specific thing...

Ambituous agenda for 1st N. High Shoals City Council meeting in a long time

The business of municipalities never stops, even with the titular head of the local government in absentia for nearly a year. The wheels have turned, the papers have been signed, and new people have assumed office and duties. So I am nearly giddy that the wonderful small town of North High Shoals will conduct some honest city council meeting activities on a Federal Holiday evening.  There are some amazing individuals at the confluence of Oconee, Walton and Morgan counties, and they deserve an equally accessible representation by their local peers. Congratulations to the new City Council members Post 3 – David Lawrence and Post 4 – Stephen Arnold and to interim Mayor Violet Dawe. May the meeting run smoothly and as quick as the local residents will allow.   Here is the agenda for that meeting swiped from Steve Holzman's blog. I wonder who will make an appearance for Family Life Enrichment Center, as this is the business belonging to former Mayor Jeff Thomas. They may no...

Photos of David Lawrence, Violet Dawe and Stephen Arnold being sworn in at last night's meeting where Eddie Cape pulled yet another no-show to prevent a quorum, but no of Judge Dave Anglin swearing in the newly elected (or re-elected in Violet's case) town officials.
