GA DEMS RELEASE JULY PRIMARY BALLOT QUESTIONS

Image
Here are the questions you can expect on the Democratic ballot for the Primary.  Of course you know by now if you want any influence whatsoever in Oconee County, you must vote in the Republican primary to get your vote to make any impact. There are no candidates to choose from in the Primary on the Democratic side this time around. We need candidates people, step up. Line was 10+ deep at the Property Tax Office in Oconee County Courthouse

Today is the last day to pay your property taxes at the Oconee County Courthouse without paying a penalty. The long lines reflected the last second nature of many of the taxpayers wanted not to part with one cent any earlier than absolutely necessary.  Once again the wonderful folks in the basement of the Courthouse were more than willing to accept payment quickly and pleasantly.

Connectivity (or lack thereof) keeping us isolated in our subdivisions

Watkinsville City Council member Brian Brodrick talked about connectivity in passing Wednesday evening when taking homeowner Dwayne Wilkes to task for an ill fitting sketch plat designed by Ken Beall and Associates to shoehorn seven houses on a private drive in a narrow farm field. Connectivity is something sorely lacking in a lot of neighborhoods and subdivisions in many areas of Oconee County. Necessity being the mother of invention, the children and young drivers of my neighborhood have taken the problem into their own hands and wheels, driving in between the elbow curve in the road of my street Katie Lane and the cul de sac of the neighboring Taylor's Landing subdivision, right past the cement sewer cover and kind of in between at least four different tracts of property. The tire tracks are visible right there in the sod, but I do not think this is a very heavily traveled road, but given the fact that kids hang out with kids in the adjoining subdivisions, it makes sense that t...

For those of you convinced Republicans never raise taxes

I am a Democrat and I hate paying taxes. I am also convinced that government in general has to do what it has to do to maintain a level of services. Lee Becker once again nails the local government down with accurate assessments that no one else, not Blake GIles, not Rob Peecher, not even Adam Thompson (yet) has written about. I think Adam will soon. Projected revenue from all sources for the General Fund budget starting July 1 is expected to be about $2 million less than the county expected to collect this year and $4 million less than the county had budgeted to spend this year. Cuts in spen...
