Oconee County historical society news

Begin forwarded message: From: "psommer"  Date: February 11, 2013 10:55:27 AM EST To: "'psommer'" Subject: historical society news Our next meeting will be   Tuesday February 19 at Ashford on Main 7pm .  At our last meeting we voted to change our meeting days to the third Tuesday and Dave Shearon very nicely volunteered his facility as a meeting location.  We also discussed helping with the historic survey that is currently going on in the City of Watkinsville, so we will concentrate our collecting of information on that area, however if you have something you want to share about that is outside of the city limits please do so. Check out the cool sounds of Kick The Robot, who will be playing at the final Team 6 event as Ashford Manor on Sunday, March 25, 2012 4-7PM!

Ashford on Main unveiled tonight at the Sanctuary

Ashford Manor Bed and Breakfast just doubled in size with the announcement that Dave Shearon and Mario Castro will be moving in their neighbor's to the south where Mike and Nona Thornton lived with their family. Anyone who attended the Daughters of the American Revolution's dedication of the pocket park in front of Jittery Joe's knows how far that property stretches. Dave and Mario will live upstairs and the downstairs will function as another meeting and event space. They are having a party to celebrate the 60th birthday of David Shearon's birth on March 25th as a fundraiser for the Dancing with the Athens Stars Team 6 with the unveiling of their new digs. Should be quite the soiree.

World's Smallest Airport - The True Story of The Thrasher Brothers Aeria...

Image
Please attend the screening of this amazing documentary at the Sanctuary located at 2nd and Barnett Shoals in Watkinsville Saturday at 7:00 pm and consider eating at Kumquat Mae restaurant before hand as they are donating 10% of the proceeds to the Team 6 of Athens Dancing with the Stars. This film is about the infancy of aerial performances in the Northeast Georgia area, especially Elberton. This is a fascinating look back at the barnstorming days post World War II. This film was shot by Matt Gennaro with help from Grady Thrasher whose father is the rather fascinating focus of this film about an airplane mounted on top of a car and the shows around the Southeast. The funds raised go toward Project Safe in the name of Dave Shearon and Elissa Bacso of Team 6. They will be competing in the latest competition of Dancing with the Athens Stars April 1st at the Classic Center against the likes of Barbara Dooley, Bob Smith, and many others.

VOTE TEAM SIX!

Brief Cases: The Overlook atop Town Center gets great new management with the co-owners of Ashford Manor B&B| Business | OnlineAthens.com

Ashford Manor Bed and Breakfast continues to have a profound influence on the economic present and future of Watkinsville, Georgia. Well done Mario and Dave. Essentially this is across Main Street from their Victorian Abode but a logical extension of their burgeoning local empire.
