What to expect at the Oconee County March for our Lives Saturday at OVP
The Oconee County Democratic Committee is sponsoring a local version of the March for our Lives at the Oconee Veterans Park (3500 Hog Mountain Road, Watkinsville, GA 30677) 11 am-1 pm Saturday, March 23, 2018 at the Tennis Pavilion in the park adjacent to the softball fields and tennis courts.
Robert Wyatt, Treasurer of the OCDC, will greet the audience and ask for a moment of silence for the 17 victims of the Parkland massacre; thank Dan Matthews, Watkinsville City Councilman, for serving as our photographer; and then introduce John Daniell (BOC), who, after his remarks, will introduce Amy Parrish (BOE), who will then introduce Dave Shearon (Watkinsville mayor) who in turn will introduce Jonathan Wallace.
Jonathan will introduce Deborah Gonzalez, and then the candidates: Chalis Montgomery, Richard Winfield, and Marisue Hilliard (who is a candidate in the 46th District Senate race).
Finally Jonathan will introduce the two student speakers who will close the official program. The Oconee Democrats really hope that the speakers will mingle with the crowd and practice “civil discourse” concerning a complex and emotional issue. Finally before the crowd disperses, people may choose to walk the trails in the Park to join in spirit with students who are marching across the country.
