Advance voting not yet covering Watkinsiville municipal elections

If you are one of those people like me who likes to vote in advance and as early as possible, you should know one thing: the municipal election for the Watkinsville City Council race between Joe Walter and Luke Bishop is not on the ballot yet at the either the advance voting spots in Oconee County (next to the Courthouse or at the Civic Center). In a few more days this municipal election will be included on the ballot and those who voted earlier may return to do so. Joe Walter is still having a gathering 5 pm Sunday at the Yarn Shop on Barnett Shoals Road across the street from LAD Trucking.

Obama Book Challenge will take place Thursday, October 16th, at Five Points Deli on Epps Bridge Parkway at 6 PM, with the public invited to discuss Senator Barack Obama's autobiography, "The Audacity of Hope." Sherry Jackson, Bobby Saxon stop by Oconee County Democratic Committee meeting Thursday evening in Watkinsville

Image
After a pre-meeting meal at the new far-too-fluorescently bright Dickey's Bar-B-Que at Butler's Crossing, State Senate candidate Sherry Jackson and US Congressional candidate Bobby Saxon both made appearances at the Oconee County Democratic committee's regular monthly meeting at the Courthouse's Grand Jury Room Thursday evening. This may be the last meeting in the Courthouse as it has been rumored to be meeting in the Courthouse Annex down on Highway 15 once again in November. Jackson spoke of her background in Walton County and her first job washing dishes for $1.25 an hour in the Walton County Hospital in Monroe. She received scholarships from the University of Georgia and the Law School here, and her Law School professor Sarajane Love walked in right on cue. Saxon spoke at length and passionately about his faith, his roots in Oconee County and his duty to his country in the National Guard in Iraq and elsewhere. He has been campaigning hard from Hart County to August

The Roadway to Epps Bridge Centre

The history and back story, not to mention the consequences of the "done deal" that is the new monstrosity called Epps Bridge Centre - thank to Lee Becker once again. Dear Friends, The scheduled hearing on Oct. 7 for the rezone request for the $76 million Epps Bridge Centre on Epps Bridge Parkway might seem almost to be an afterthought. The state–at the urging of the county–already has decided to build a $26 million roadway to the project. The county, in an effort to facilitate the project, has loaned the state $5 million for right of way purchase for the roadway. That's only part of the story. The county has passed a beer and wine ordinance, the federal government has granted a permit for mitigation of stream damage in Oconee by stream reparations in Greene County, and the local planning staff reviewed the project favorably despite a decidedly negative review by their regional counterparts. The reason Oconee County is so enthusiastic about the project is
