Oconee Candidate Forum Set for Oct. 13

A candidate forum will be held October 13th, 7:00PM in the Oconee County library auditorium.  Participating in the forum will be the candidates for contested seats on the Board of Education, the Board of Commissioners and State Senate. 

 

Agreeing to participate are:

 

Oconee County Board of Education candidates - Tom Breedlove and Rich Clark

 

State Senate candidate - Sherry Jackson

 

Chair Board of Commissioner write in candidate - Tom Leach  

 

Chair Board of Commissioner - Melvin Davis

 

Incumbent candidate for State Senate - Bill Cowsert has a conflict but will send a representative or will appear for part of the forum. 

 

The Forum is being organized by the same consortium of Oconee citizen groups that organized the successful candidate forums in early June for the local primaries.


Citizens will be able to ask questions directly of Breedlove and Clark at the Oct. 13 Forum.

Jeff Dantzler's arrests may be the best thing that ever happened to him

THis has next to nothing to do with Oconee County with the possible exception of the location of his former office, but a former colleague of mine on the radio got popped today for four counts. Any one who has listened to 960 the Ref AM sports talk radio or heard the UGA Lady Dawgs or men's baseball team has surely heard the encyclopedic knowledge of one Jeff Dantzler. Jeff and I are pretty much diametrically opposed poltically, but today he was arrested on four counts including DUI. I hope he gets the help he needs following his incarceration. I work for a lawyer who could help him out if he does not having someone already representing him. This man is a great broadcaster and I hope this arrest serves as a wake-up call for him and his rock and roll lifestyle. James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
