We need your help Saturday morning at the Watkinsville Christmas parade

If you know how to help hitch a wagon, or have ever dealt with decorating carriages in a Christmas manner, or can help with two HUGE Belgian mares, or just want to walk or ride a bike, we want you to come to Watkinsville sometime between 9 am and 10:45 or so Saturday morning. We will be on Barnett Shoals Road (THE WATKINSVILLE PORTION!!!) somewhere between the offices of the Oconee Enterprise and Southwire/Anaconda/American Cable in slot number ..48. This is a Christmas parade, and we are a partisan political committee designed to bring the Democratic party back to power in Oconee County, Georgia. We will have lots of people on bikes, trikes, scooters, etc. My cell phone is 706-372-1062 and I live about three blocks from our place of taking off. Look for lots of ladies in blue hats or Oconee Democrats t-shirts. The parade starts at 11 am, and should go down Main Street between Town Center and Eagle Tavern. The bikes will ride behind the horse-drawn carriage and poop scooping people (me

Texas takes lead in Reed sleaze prosecution

Texas groups call for Reed inquiry By JIM GALLOWAY , LAYLAN COPELIN Published on: 12/02/05 AUSTIN, Texas — Three government watchdog groups on Thursday called for a local prosecutor to investigate Ralph Reed, for failing to register as a lobbyist while he was paid millions of dollars to influence gambling issues in the state. Reed, a political strategist and former head of the Christian Coalition, is a Republican candidate for Georgia lieutenant governor. The complaint, filed by Common Cause Texas, Public Citizen and Texans for Public Justice, is based on e-mails and other documents that have surfaced during federal investigations into former Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff. From 1999 to 2002, Abramoff hired Reed to combat gambling initiatives in Texas and other states on behalf of Indian tribes out to protect their casino markets. David Escamilla, a Texas prosecutor and Democrat, said he will decide whether to initiate a formal investigation this month. Jared Thomas, a spokesman for

More Republican bribery comes to surface

Calif. Congressman Admits Taking Bribes By ELLIOT SPAGAT, Associated Press Writer 12 minutes ago SAN DIEGO - Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham pleaded guilty Monday to conspiracy and tax charges and tearfully resigned from office, admitting he took $2.4 million in bribes to steer defense contracts to conspirators. Cunningham, 63, entered pleas in U.S. District Court to charges of conspiracy to commit bribery, mail fraud and wire fraud, and tax evasion for underreporting his income in 2004. Cunningham answered "yes, Your Honor" when asked by U.S. District Judge Larry Burns if he had accepted bribes from someone in exchange for his performance of official duties. Later, at a news conference, he wiped away tears as he announced his resignation. "I can't undo what I have done but I can atone," he said. Cunningham, an eight-term Republican congressman, had already announced in July that he would not seek re-election next year. House Ethics rules say that any law
