Urgent: 5 callers in your neighborhood

Image
Friend -- Put the list of errands aside. Rake the leaves later. We've got some calls to make. There are only three days left until Election Day. And in those three days -- right now -- we can help make a big difference in some of the closest races across the country. We're starting the most ambitious get-out-the-vote push ever tried in an election like this -- and to reach our goal, we need 5 callers in your neighborhood to start calling right now. Will you make 20 calls today? We can put off a lot of things in our day-to-day lives -- from going to the supermarket to picking up dry-cleaning -- but this isn't one of those things. Because once the outcomes that will be decided on November 2nd are set, they're set for two years -- and maybe longer. Right now, it's clear that dozens of races all around the country will come down to the wire. And these calls could make the difference between winning and losing. When the polls close on the evening of

Carol Dodd Porter in reaction to revelations of Casey Cagle affairs from former GOP candidate and Morgan County resident Ray Boyd

Since the day I announced to run, I have kept to the issues facing Georgia and have not once made a personal attack on my opponents. I have stated many times when asked about the incident reported, I was not going there and that I could bea t the incumbent Lieutenant Governor on his poor record on the issues facing Georgians. It is obvious from the viciousness of his false attacks on me that I am doing just that. I have been endorsed by leading Republican pundits and by Republican leaning newspapers. I am getting the cross over needed in Georgia to win and Cagle sees that. As the people hear the truth on the property tax increases and the tax wasting decisions made by the incumbent Lieutenant Governor, they are coming on board with my message of stopping corruption and cutting waste. If Cagle were not in fear of losing, he would not have gone back into the studio to cut his latest false attack ad, saying I would raise billions in government spending, when I am the one who wants to

Friend -- There's only one way to wake up the morning after an election -- with no regrets. There's only one way to be sure that's how you wake up on November 3rd: giving everything you've got in the last five days. That's why I'm out there day after day, doing exactly what you're doing -- talking to voters. These kinds of conversations are the most effective thing we can do in a campaign -- you know it. I know it. They're how we brought change to this country after years of Republican malarkey. They're how we won the White House. I know what you're doing is working because, when I'm on the road or the President's on the road, the crowds are fired up and ready to go. I'm seeing positive signs everywhere, and millions of our supporters -- including tens of thousands who have never voted before in a midterm election -- are voting early. But we have less than a week left, and we need everyone to dig deep. Because none of

Women. Against. Deal.

NATHAN DEAL’S ANTI-WOMEN VOTING RECORD ·          In 1988, Deal voted against FOUR domestic violence bills.  On one occasion - he was THE ONLY member of the entire Georgia legislature to vote against a domestic violence bill. ·          Deal also fought against the Georgia Domestic Violence Act that Roy Barnes sponsored.  The bill allowed police officers to arrest a spouse suspected of abusing another spouse without a warrant.  Deal opposed the bill because it would "violate the sanctity of the family." ·          In 1991, Deal wrote a bill that would dismantle Georgia's rape shield.  Deal's bill would have allowed defense attorneys to put a rape victim on the stand and question what she was wearing at the time of the crime, and her past sexual and social history.  In effect, it would have let defense attorneys suggest that a woman ASKED to be raped. ·          Thousands of women, prosecutors and law enforcement officers protested Deal's bill - eventual

Friend -- If you're on Facebook, and you want to have a big impact right now on the election, here's how: Click here to use our "Commit to Vote Challenge" Facebook app. With just a few clicks, you can ask any or all of your friends to commit to vote (which studies show is one of the best ways to get them to cast a ballot). You can track your progress, and compete with your friends who are also using the tool. The amazing part is how quickly your actions multiply across the country. Let's say five or 10 of your friends commit. A few of them will pass it on, and their friends will pass it on, and it just grows from there. We're already seeing chains of commitments more than 20 people long, reaching from San Diego to Tampa, via Seattle, Boise, Boston, and New Orleans. You might never guess how many people you'll turn out, or what critical race you'll put over the top -- all with just a few minutes and your Facebook account. So give it a sh

Friend -- Right now, the same special interests that we've fought for two years are flooding the airwaves with negative ads. They don't have the courage to stand up and disclose the identity of their donors. They could be insurance companies. They could be Wall Street banks. We don't know. This kind of politics isn't just a threat to Democrats. It's a threat to our democracy. And the only way to fight back is with millions of voices, ready to stand up and finish what we started in 2008. That means you. And we have just seven days to do it. The reason you knocked on doors, made phone calls, chipped in what you could, and cast your vote in 2008 was because you believed that your actions could make a difference and you could play a role in bringing about historic change. You were right. But the next seven days are a pivotal moment in that continuing fight for historic change. And I need you again to do everything you can. Because this moment is so crucia

Subject: Dr. Durham event Hi,             This is for anyone interested in one of our local famous folks, plants or herbal medicines.  The Friends of Scull Shoals invites you to a Dr. Durham herb walk on November 7 beginning at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 7, 2010, at the   Scull   Shoals   Education   Center   in   Greene   County . Horticulturist Debbie Cosgrove will guide a tour of the native herbs and other plants used by Dr. Lindsey Durham in his 19 th   century herbal remedies. These are local native plants, and Mrs. Cosgrove will explain their features and the uses Dr. Durham made of them in his patent medicines. The plants along the trails on the   Education   Center   grounds are a small sample of the many herbs Dr. Durham grew in a 13-acre herb garden near Scull Shoals. Most of the plants grow naturally on this property, and others have been moved from nearby areas by Mr. and Mrs. Cosgrove and the Friends of Scull Shoals. Patients came from long distances to be treated i

The worst coach in the world

That is how I felt after a season full of frustration came to a head this evening in the first round of the Oconee Parks and Recreation Department u12 soccer season.  Our winless team lost yet again in the post-season tourney 4-2 after playing a great first half. I blew a gasket late in the second half when we were still down by one goal and the other team had an out of bounds ball directly in front of our bench. The other team had two players who I would say were worthy of traveling team status, while we maybe had three who occasionally did. I give the other team all the credit in the world. The other team took its sweet time deciding who was going to pass the ball in and player "A" took the ball over his head to throw it in and actually pumped like he was going to throw it in, then their coach decided another player was to throw it in instead, and the first player tossed the ball into the field of play to the second player, underhanded, but a violation none the less. It w

Oconee County fundraiser for Russell Edwards today

UGA Law School professor and longtime local political activist Rosemary Bowen and her solar power building husband and redheaded musician Drew Bowen are graciously opening their home at 5231 S M Copelan Road in Watkinsville (actually way south of the city limits and about halfway between Watkinsville and Greensboro) 3:00 to 5:00 pm today Sunday, October 24 for an afternoon of music and politics in support of 10th District Democratic Congressional candidate nominee Russell Edwards. Russell has been endorsed by the 43,000 member Georgia Association of Educators and has raised more than $100,000.00 locally. This strong, sensible candidate to replace the embarrassment that is Dr. Paul Broun hopes that you can donate a $100.00 contribution to attend this event. Please contact Shira Lebow at 404-429-3104 or events@russelledwardsforcongress.com for more information or to RSVP.
